What a stupid idea. There are so many flaws in it, it isn't even funny. Even if you're an honest person, with no friends, and one that buys nothing but new video games, there's still a chance that you're going to get ripped off.

Although, I will say this for Sony--they are very proud of their technologies and patent things for now other reason than not to let the competition do it first. In other words, just because they have the patent for something doesn't mean they're going to use it. Supposedly they've already patented "brain scanning" technology for use in gaming, whatever the fack that means. ^^

I think it's stupid.
People buy new systems to replace broken systems (especially the sorry folk who have abusive siblings who can't take of games) all the time,
are they supposed to re-buy all their games?
So utterly pointless.
If they implement that into the PS3 I imagine it will scare away alot of people.

I would take this report with a grain of salt. It's not likely to be used in conjunction with the PS3 hardware. For one, the backlash they would face from gamers would be so negative in nature, they'd be committing corporate suicide in allowing it to go through. Don't forget major retailer Gamestop/EB, which makes a lot of profit on preowned titles. It wouldn't be a good idea to piss them off.

And what happens if a PS3 becomes defective and needs replacing? The logistics involved in making provisions for that eventuality are frightening. It's just not realistic.

This will not be used. There is no way a company in their right mind would do something this stupid in a market like this. PS3 would be a total flop with this kind of technology. I have been a sony nazi for as long as I can remember and have been waiting for the ps3 for a long time too. But if this were the case, I'd go right out and buy a damn 360.

GD has it right on the money. They would alienate all of the stores that sell their product, limiting them to what.... Walmart and Target, neither of which sell M rated games. This is not realistic in the least.

Why not? Preowned sales aren't allowed in Japan or so I've been told. I've also been told that there is no "game rental" in Japan.
