Yesterday, Nintendo DS fans jumped for joy as the company launched its new Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service, allowing gamers to play Mario Kart DS and Tony Hawk's American SK8Land against others across the Internet. Unfortunately, the launch did not go without a hitch.
On the Nintendowifi.com Web site, the service's status is described as "Global Wi-Fi Service is experiencing intermittent problems." Digging further into the site, the problems apparently are related to Mario Kart DS as Nintendo has pegged the game as experiencing online difficulties and Tony Hawk as problem-free.
The reasoning and extent of the problems aren't detailed, but the Web site offers one solution:
"Our experience has shown that the majority of problems with wireless multiplayer gaming are caused by signal interference from other devices (wireless LAN, microwave ovens, cordless devices, computers). We recommend moving to another location or turn off the interfering devices."

I was using the wifi at the Varsity.
My wager is that so many people were trying to connect that the server couldn't handle the madness. Seriously when I went to pick up Mario Kart, everyone in line was buying it. Utter madness and this was around 7-8pm mind you. |

Played my first Mario Kart session online today.
Worked nice and smooth.
I linked my DS WIFI ID to my Mynintendo profile so I can check my statistics online and I have that is very awesome. Nintendowifi.com keeps track of all your statistics including graphs of your online activity. Nifty.
The online experience went very well, no lag whatsoever. The matchmaking process is pretty cool as well. Once the game matchs you up with other players you all vote for a course. If there's a tie, the computer selects from the winning votes randomly. I have to say it's very exciting to play against other people across the globe. Me and another player were neck and neck throughout the tournament. Eventually I managed to snubnose him in the last course and take first place  . Very awesome, I can't wait to play more sessions. |

Not in Mario Kart, at least as far as I can tell.
I know Animal Crossing has chat.
Honestly don't think its even necessary with Mario Kart. |
