I just heard that the Wii is going to be released in September. This will beat the PS3 by a few months and give them a really strong foothold for this Christmas season. Good going Nintendo. |

Actually, Nintendo has publicly announced that September is the timeframe in which they will announce the release date and price for the Wii. Everything else is still speculation. |

Here's the official story
"An avalanche of Wii news hit the Web yesterday, sending Nintendophiles into a frenzy. The topic was one of the most highly guarded secrets in the industry--the release date of the Wii.
Early in the morning, an article in (no joke) Sports Illustrated for Kids showed the release date of the console as November 6. Nintendo claimed the date was purely speculation by the magazine.
A few hours later, CNN/Money's Chris Morris revealed some info that he received while talking to analysts and industry insiders. Among the insights were that the Wii may already be in production, and that the console could launch as early as late September.
Nintendo's PR people were hard at work again today, and gave few clues as to whether any of the rumors are true. A spokesperson for the news service Bloomberg said, "There's no change in our plan to release the console in the last quarter of this year. We are planning an announcement in September and it may be causing some confusion."
Nintendo's reassurance that the console would launch in the fourth quarter does dispel the thought that the Wii could launch in late September, as the fourth quarter begins in October.
The choice of the words "in September" vary slightly from a previous statement from Nintendo, which said that the release date and price would be available by September. Nintendo fans, it sounds like the newswires may be a little quiet until then." |

I'm thinking October.
We (Gamestop) already have the SKUs for a few of the Wii games and they're listed as October releases so far. They of course could change but we usually don't get the SKUs in until theres a close to solid date attached to something. We don't however have the SKU on the actual console yet. |

Whenever the SKU comes in, the System will be in our Database and we can start taking preorders. My guess is not till Mid to Late August at the earliest. I'll post AS SOON as I find out.
On a related subject, I think corporate might be deciding not to take PS3 System preorders at all because of the Microsoft Fiasco at the 360 Launch. What happened there is that apparently Microsoft told us we were going to get more systems then we did so Gamestop/EB kept taking preorders thinking we were going to get enough systems to cover the preorders. Since we know the PS3 will be in limited supply we might just make it First come first serve. I DON'T think it'll be the same Issue with the Wii as I believe they're already in production or nearing production. |

I was told me pre-orders will not be done until September or even October for both Wii or PS3. The reason why it is so late is for them to avoid all the BS they had with the 360 pre-orders. Though my manager was also hearing rumors that they might not even take PS3 reserves....don't know if that rumor will effect the Wii (though I think it shouldn't). |

My Nintendo Rep told me $249.99 as the price. And that seems pretty realistic looking back on the past consoles. I sure hope she's right. |

 I can't stop watching Nogs Avi!
Anyway... I think $250 is a resonable approximation for the price. With the way the other 2 are priced, Nintendo could probably get away with pricing it at $300... but... they won't!

And they'll still turn a profit on each one sold. They may not have the most popular consoles, but they turn a profit consistently, and always pump out quality first-party software. That's one of the reasons I still like Nintendo. |
