If you missed the Spike 2005 Video Game Awards, you missed one entertaining show. But dont worry! If you still want to laugh your ass off, so to their website, www.spiketv.com, and check out the nominee lists and winners. Its hilarious.
This show was set up by the man.
In nearly every category, one or more of these games apeared: King Kong The Official Game of the Movie (they obnoxiously had to say the whole title everytime), Fantastic Four, 50 Cent: Bulletproof, Aeon Flux, or From Russia With Love. A few times whole categories were made up of them.
There were some good wins, We <3 Katamari won for best score, American Wasteland won for best Individiual sports game; but the two of the losses put me over the edge. But the bad wins far outweiged. Burnout Revenge took best racing game over GT4 and Forza Motorsport and NFS:Most Wanted; which while Revenge is a great game, I dont think it had any business beating out any of those titles being as its not much different than Burnout 3 was.
I actaully turned the TV off right then and went to bed. Only did I find out this morning that EA Sports Fight Night 2 took 'best fighter' from Tekken 5, Dark Stalkers, AND Soul Calibur 3. Get real, Spike TV - when you want to make an awards show where you actaully give awards to good games, call me up. |

Fantastic 4 and From Russia With Love were both atrocious games. At least Kong was pretty good. But yeah, Spike TV Awards and the VGA's are pretty much what you would expect.. mainstream garbage. The fact that Burnout Revenge won viewer's choice for racing game of the year over titles like Gran Turismo 4 show that. Burnout Revenge was a good game, but still not really superior to Burnout 3, and in no way deserves racing game of the year status over Gran Turismo 4. What a joke. |

ALL awards shows are like that, the only ones worth looking up are ones that are voted for by the public |

I don't really have words for this.
But I did get a giggle out of WoW winning "Most Addictive Game, fueled by Dew." X)! And I think Lumines deserved best handheld. The nominees for best RPG made me want to vomit. And I'm okay with Resident Evil 4 winning game of the year.
For the most part, I found this awards show quite biased, mostly retarded. X)! |

I found it entertaining and better than the previous ones. Hopefully it'll get better. The 1st MTV awards was all advertiser bought too, you know. They gotta be around for a bit first.
I'll also defend Burnout here. I HATE GT4 as it's the most contrived overtweakable PoS I've ever played. I rented it and after 3 days took it back feeling I had still been ripped off. If you want to talk derivitive then look no further than the GT series. 500 cars and 10 are this brand, 10 are that brand. That's like 45 flavors of vanilla. Like almost all series, it peaked with the second edition and has been sliding downhill (or maybe everyone's catching up to them) since then. Burnout Revenge isn't much different than Burnout 3 but the addons do help and after all...Burnout 3 is still better than anything else out today. I haven't played Forza but GT doesn't even come close in the "fun" area. Maybe the accurracy is dead on but be serious...how many of us really know if they got the engine power from a CLK racer right? Have you ever even seen this car? Really. Maybe Shino can vouch for the Eclipse realities but how can we say "this is spot on!" about cars we've never done anything to? I couldn't even say that about my car if it were in the game. I put gas in and change the oil. That's the extent of my car tuning ability.
Other than that, King King was so paid for it was pathetic. The game just came out like two weeks ago, maybe, and it wins everything it's up for. My last gripe would be having so many Spike "personalities" on. Def Leppard? TNA wrestlers??? Come on. And what was Raymond's mom (Everybody Loves Raymond) doing on there? I'll bet she plays a mean game of Halo! Sam jackson was the only good choice. Oh, and the opening was stolen straight from the MTV Awards playbook. |

They didn't nominate Colin McRae Rally 2005, therefore they suck. |

I'd vote for Burnout, because it abandons realism completely..."Realistic" races become annoying, because if you crash or something, you're screwed...
Burnout encourages you to do some DAMN cool stuff, that is pure , for the boosts. And it's still a good racer in it's own right.
However, most of the other choices are dumb. |

Its not the fact that that Burnout beat out GT4.... its the fact that they were even put in the same category. Its arguable that they are even in the same genre. Personally, I think Burnout is much more fun. But then again Burnout is an Arcade style racer. Where GT4, Forenza, and NFS:Most wanted, can all be put under the driving simulator category, BECAUSE they are more tweakable, and technical.
Another thing that put me away when Dai called me to rant this morning, was the fact that only 1 of the nominee's for RPG of the year, was even an rpg. The worst part is, it didnt even win. I think we can all agree that RPGs and MMOrpgs are different genres and the fact that X-men: rise of the crapiness and Dungeon siege 2 dont fall under either of these categories.
I told you Dia. I tried to warn you, but you still subjected yourself to the blatant sellout, that is the VGAs. Shame on anyone for endorsing such a show.
PS OMFG they had to bring up the Hot Coffee mod again. When will people just this stuff drop? |
