heya all PO artists =)
I was given a while ago by doot, some PO sketches to practise inking on, in the hope that I could some day help u guys out, now, I tihnk im starting to get the hang of it ^_^ its a long process, but I think im geting there.
My only question, is what brush, and what size do u guys use? Ive been trying to base it up existing PO's I can see, but, as they are all coloured, its alot tougher to see.
So, if one of you guys/gals could help, I'd appreciatte it greatly. |

I used to use brushes, but I found it a lot easier to use a similar method to what Dooters uses. You can download her tutorial here. When digital inking, I create paths with the pen tool, change the paths to a selection, fill, then touch up with the next to smallest brush.
You can also ink traditionally, scan it in to photoshop, and multiply the layers, alhtough I don't like using this method because it's hard to transition between resolutions. In fact, I'm thinking of switching completely to illustrator for inking, 'cause of the whole infinite resolution thing.
*edit*
Here's an inked PO, if you would like to see how it looks pre-color. |

ahhh, d/l at the mo, ty!
What I was doing, was making the paths, then going stroke selection (or whatver the command is, escapes me at the mo)
ty for the example too =) |

wow...thats a great tut! I notice doot does her paths differently to me, she curves as she goes, where as I have been curving them all at the end, her way looks MUCH better. Ty kindly, gonna get to work on this now, will post up results when im done =) |

I don't really like stroking; I mean, it's fine if you're just making clean lines, but I like to add a sense of depth and flare. Sure, my method takes twice as long but I like the results better =)
And as far as curving as you go or until the end, I don't think it makes much of a difference (or rather, it's all up to personal taste). I move things around so much, I do it as I think of it, which may be as I go or after I make a line.
You're welcome. Make sure to thank Doot for making such an awesome tutorial. =)
And I can't wait to see some of your work ^o^ |

Don't worry so much about getting lines parallel, unless you're making a grid; in which case, you can use Photoshop's snaps and guides =D
Practice makes perfect ^_^ Based on the other things you've posted, I think you'll do really well =) |

You are very welcome. Thanks to Scrum for pointing you towards it. I know it takes a while (why do you think we're looking for help! - lol) but it is totally worth it. |
