When your parents were younger....

I recently found out that my parents met on a blind date. And at the same time they met my mother was seeing three other guys one of which was married.
I also found out that my mother also dated her sister’s future husband, my uncle.
I keep hearing more and more about my mother’s past and learn that she was wilder than me.
I never thought she was a saint but I never though my mother was a wilder child than me is very strange.
How much do you know about your parents?

My parents past is a mystery really.
To me at least.
Every time I've ever asked I had a completely different story.
I secretly suspect they were awesome in their youth and refuse to let me know.

My dad had a very funny past that involved nuns, dirt biking, stealing shoes off of recently accomplished suicide people, and throwing his brothers in hornets nests.

My mom as far as I know used to hanglide, work at Jack in the Box, and ummm...Dunno, got hit by her parents a lot cause they were always breaking of switches from the tree in the back-yard.

My parents originally married because my dad had a job in an airline and could get mom discounts if he married her. I laughed when I learned of that and said "That's you two all right!"

My dad was stationed in Okinawa for several years during the Vietnam war, working as a codebreaker. He actually spoke to the president after he broke the code on a message and saved hundreds of lives.

After that he was stationed in England, where he met my mom. My dad was drinking buddies with my mom's brothers; she was actually in love with one of her brother's other friends (a Cuban guy!), but ended up dating my dad and getting married to him.

They moved into a farm in the British countryside (a place called Gadfly, in Borne End) where my dad and his friends started cultivating a greenhouse full of pot (come on, they were hippies).

They were caught growing the weed, and I'm not really sure what exactly happened, but they had to leave England. My mom was an illegal immegrant for almost a year; she's still not a citizen and considered an alien.

My dad opened a studio and became a record producer. He lost the studio when I was about four, started drinking, and when they divorced my mom was going to take my brother and I back to england, but she ended up staying here. I think she remarried so that she could stay in the country (seriously, she got remarried QUICK).

hmmm..my mom was definatly a wilder child than me(all though now she's pretty strait laced and all business lady like)...

I know that by the time she was 17 she had gotten out of high school early and was living alone....before she moved out she had stolen my grandmother's car with a friend and driven halfway across the country. I know she was into a few different kinds of drugs, she got a tatoo in an alleyway from some guy named Dr. Bob with a bunch of her friends (which has resulted very badly for all of them) and basically some things along those lines. I think she pretty much got straitened out when she went into the navy...she met my dad there but they've been divroced since before I can remember(though they are still great friends and I see both all the time)...

it's definatly wierd thinking about her like that because now, well, my mom is a really smart person with a good head on her shoulders so I cant really see it.

Hmm. My parents met at a co-ed softball game that my dad was refereeing. He was in graduate school, and my mom was working. He had refereed the earlier game, and the next ref didn't show up, so being the greedy grad student he was, he agreed to fill in. My mom was the catcher. Afterwards, everyone went to a bar for drinks and food, and my dad was trying to pick up my mom's friend. The friend wasn't really interested, so my mom asked him out.
Shortly after they were married, my mom somehow won 5 or 10 cases of beer. However, they were living in a third-story walk-up, and neither of them wanted to make that many trips at once. So every time somebody went downstairs, they had to bring a case of beer back up with them.
My dad had an Irish afro when he was younger (his hair is so curly that it grows out, not down) and used to ride a motorcycle. He tended bar for his parents (who owned said bar), and has some funny stories about the people who used to go there, including one known as BeBop. In college, he wanted to be a veterinarian until he realized that he hated biology and wasn't too good at it. He then switched to chemistry, and at one point was on academic probation because he had a 1.7 GPA. When he was in graduate school, he and his housemates were known for their annual "Decorate Our Christmas Tree/Hanukkah Bush" parties. A lot of our ornaments came from those parties. They also threw a Tupperware party for no real reason. That party has become somewhat infamous for...well, they won't tell me. But despite rowdy parties, the little old ladies who lived next door loved my dad and his housemates, because they shoveled their driveways in the winter (this was in Buffalo, NY). Also, when they were short on cash and since NY is a bottle bill state, my dad and co. would go to convenience store parking lots, pick up all the bottles they could find and turn them in for the five cent deposit.
My mom wasn't quite as interesting as my dad was. She went to an all-girls Catholic school. She took AP Art in high school, which required her and her mother to take a trip to a plumbing supply place to get materials for a metal sculpture (keep in mind that this was in the late 1960-early 1970s). She wanted to go to art school after she graduated, but my grandfather said no because art schools were "too liberal". So she became a dental hygienist. She started as an early childhood education major, but then discovered that she didn't have the patience to deal with 20 screaming little kids every day.

And there's a lot more that I probably haven't heard yet. I'm sure there's some I don't want to hear. My family is insane.
