January 12, 2006 - A scooper has advised Moviehole of two actors who might be frontrunners for villain roles in the next Batman film. The report requires one to read between the lines; I have and here's what I've determined.
For the femme fatale role, Moviehole's source claims that "this is the first screen appearance for this character in the Batman films and she has a very close connection with a major character in Nolan's first Batman movie. She will be out for revenge against Bruce Wayne and Gotham in a major way."
The unnamed actress is said to be a SAG and Golden Globe nominee who is currently five months pregnant. "She will be in tip top fighting shape once production begins to roll early next year but not before she throws a few coins in a fountain."
That actress would be Rachel Weisz, a nominee for her role in The Constant Gardener, who is pregnant with the child of Darren Aronofsky, who directed her in The Fountain.
But which character is the scooper referring to? The most likely choice seems Ra's Al Ghul's daughter Talia, given that "she has a very close connection with a major character" in Batman Begins and is "out for revenge against Bruce Wayne and Gotham."
For the role of The Joker, the big-name actor that Warners and director Christopher Nolan are said to be eyeing "has a major film coming out this summer and it's a sequel to one of his biggest hits. In fact, his performance in the first movie was nominated for an Oscar."
That actor, of course, is Johnny Depp, an oft-mentioned fan fave to play The Joker.
Moviehole's source adds that "rumor is that he might be interested depending on the script, which is being written right now." |

Depp? As the Joker? I may have to repent of what I said abot Jack being the best Joker. Depp is one of my fav actor's like of all time. He could so pull it off. |

HELL NO! If Depp is Joker I swear to GOD I'm going to picket this movie...Depp is a good actor but he is NO Joker...Joker is a sick twisted sardonic bastard.
Crispin Glover is my choice for Joker.
I didn't really care when they made Storm a midget. I don't care how bad they are screwing up the next Superman movie...But if they use Depp for Joker I promise to go hunting and sacrifice my kill to the Batman gods to ebb Gods wrath at such a lousy pick. |

Wow such hate and you would rather have George McFly as the Joker? No no no  The bat does not want to fight rat boy as the joker. Johnny Depp has provn time and time again that he can pull off just about any role. I think this role would be another great one for him. |

DOOD! I don't know... I have to agree with Gaaz on this one. Crispin Glover would be a perfect fit.

Of course the perfect joker would be Mark Hamill! I mean look at that smile! He already looks like the freaking joker. And we all know he has the VOICE for it. 
Only problem with that... is that he is 54 years old. He may not be able to keep up as well as he should. |

And I am a Johnny Depp fangirl. Believe you me. He's been number 1 on my top 5 for ovewr 15 years and I daresay I know he could play it BUT as Gaaz says - he's no Joker.
We'll have to see. Let's hope they don't screw up the only hope of good Batman cinema since the first two. |

Also I'm like a Joker super Fan...If he had an Identitiy before becoming Joker then my first borns name would be that but since he was an unnammed failed comedian who fell into a vat of chemicals (Unlike the depiction of the first Batman movie) I will simply have to call my first born Joker The Tilley.

Personally, I was rather hoping that they would go a different route with the sequel, rather than have it being just bringing back the Joker.
Now I could well be wrong, there are a lot of ways that this could work. One would be to base it off of "Batman: The Killing Joke" where Joker decides to do everything he can to make Jim Gordon snap. He shoots his daughter Barbara in the spine, paralyzing her. He then kidnaps Gordon and makes him watch as he tortures her (among other things) and threatens to take his son from him. Batman eventually shows up, and hearing what Joker did he wants to kill the clown. Gordon instead says "By the book ...Take him in by the book."
I swear I could just see Gary Oldman saying that line now, battered and bruised, pushed to the edge, and still fighting the good fight. |
