FYE puts in bid for musicland

Trans World Entertainment Corporation, parent company of the FYE chain of music stores, has submitted a bid to purchase bankrupt Musicland Holding Corp. for $104 million in addition to assuming Musicland's $17.1 million debt. According to ICv2 research, the reaction to the possible acquisition from unidentified members of America's anime and manga retail industry varied from hoping that new ownership would salvage some mainstream distribution for anime and manga, while other respondents worry about Trans World's marginal interest in supporting anime and manga sales.

To be honest I hope it works out. New ownership and possible holdings of mainstream anime and manga might help keep the industry going a bit more. Since it's hard enough for us fans to find places that have more variety and pricing.

So THAT's why all the Sam Goodies have been closing up shop. (I didn't know Musicland was bankrupt)

Anymoo, Musicland/Suncoast has always been a strong carrier of anime (and they kind of branched into manga a bit), so the interest is understandable (a lot of anime fans recognize Suncoast as a friend to anime).

Here's hoping it goes through.

See, while I think anime is cool and all, I'm not really a super fan, and am not looking at this whole thing from that perspective. But what I will say is that I'm glad they went bankrupt. On top of grossly overcharging for everything, I worked for Sam Goody for a brief time and it was one of the worst and most negative work experiences I have ever had. So all I really have to say is "Karma's a bitch."
