Enough that they gave it a perfect score...
See it here!
Or here...

Japan's top gaming magazine only has good things to say about Square Enix's long-delayed PlayStation 2 role-playing game.
Suffice it to say that Final Fantasy fans have been waiting a long time for the next game in the series. The game was initially announced within hours of President George W. Bush being sworn in for his first term in office. In the intervening five years, it has been delayed numerous times, going from March 2004 to Summer 2004 to April 2005 to March 2006.
Now, with the game's release on the horizon, the first signs are emerging that it was worth the wait. The latest issue of Famitsu, Japan's most widely read and respected game magazine gave the game a score of 40--the highest rating on its scale.
Final Fantasy XII's 40 rating puts it into a very elite club, whose members include: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Nintendo 64), the original Soul Calibur (Dreamcast), The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (GameCube), and, most recently, Nintendogs (DS).
Final Fantasy XII is set to ship in Japan March 16--a week from Thursday. No US release date has been set yet, but GameSpot's extensive previous coverage has plenty of details on the game.

Its funny how 3 of those 5 are in house Nintendo games. Just goes to show you how much of a software powerhouse Nintendo is. |

Well when you look at the companies (Namco, Square, Nintendo) it's not like it's THQ or something. I'm most surprised by NintenDogs being on the list tho, seriously. The Zeldas get there because Miyamoto gets blown by every Japanese mag and SoCal on the Dreamcast was graphically delicious at the time but I wouldn't think that NintenDogs would be so perfect a game to garner a perfect score. I'm saying this having never played the game tho. Matter of fact, SoCal is the only game on the list I have played or even want to play. I proudly remain the eclectic gamer. |

*bounces around like crazy* I'm so excited about this. Finally, another good rpg comes out! The market has been too focused on shooters/sports games/strategy games lately. I haven't had anything to look forward to. xD |

This shows one of two possible things.
That the game is truly awesome and deserved the score or Famitsu is sucking up to Square Enix for the hell of it.
I am sorry to skeptic or questioning of this, but after playing that terrible demo, I can't see this thing deserving a perfect score unless they really (and I mean really) improved what I saw and played. Seriously, for what we have been waiting for, it seemed like Square was pretty much doing nothing much for the gameplay, but they could make it look pretty.
I will still give it a chance like I did with the past Final Fantasies, but the series just seems to slowly go downhill for me. |
