An old MacHall comic made me think of something...(It's the one where they got a 1000 letters because of one abused dog and not even 10 letters about a rapist on campus...Their server is down so I can't pull up the comic now.)

So WHO is the worst person?

The parents in this story

Or

The drug Smugglers in this story

This topic is NOT about why drugs should/shouldn't be legalized or even how the "War on Drugs" forces people to commit these acts.

The question is simply WHO is the worse of the two and why?

This is for my own personal benefit and just wanna see what the people think.

The second one. The babies were merely being used as Decoys, and really weren't abused so much as neglected...which they were probably getting as much at home as they were with other people, given their condition and the parents' obvious disregard. Also, none of the babies were actually injured in any way, or killed.

The puppies died. They were physically injected with drugs.

As much as I think the babies' parents deserve to rot, at least the kids were okay in the end.

I completely agree with Shandriz. The babies were okay at the end of it all, but a lot of puppies actually died.
Yes, it's very wrong to use babies as a decoy so you can smuggle drugs, but it's just sickening to inject and stuff puppies full of drugs. That just isn't right..

It's hard to make a choice between two evils.
I ultimately am going to say the Baby smuggling is worse.
While the Puppies were actually injected and stuffed with drugs, and the babies weren't directly harmed. I think that in both cases there is a crime in the lack of care or love towards either the babies or the puppies. What pushed me one or way or another was the comment in the Baby Smuggling article.

Sptimes.com wrote:
When McDaniel looked inside her luggage, he found six large baby formula cans and a seventh small one.

He tested liquid from one can. The result: cocaine.

He tested a piece of pellet from the solid-sounding can. The result: heroin.

Washington feigned surprise.

But her attitude turned indignant as McDaniel picked up the baby's bottle, twisted off the cap and sniffed it.

"What kind of person do you think I am?" she asked.

He didn't answer.

I think the kind of person that would "rent" their child to strangers for money or drugs are worse than those who directly injected the puppies with drugs. That child was a product of your own blood, and you leave it in the hands of a drug smuggler for some quick cash or marijuana. Knowing full well that any time that baby could have been placed in harm. I think it's a miracle that none of the babies were harmed. We're not talking about a babysitter ring or daycare. They were left in the hands of Drug Dealers and Smugglers. I could just imagine in some carelessness that any of those babies could have been put in harm's way. Another note was that one baby that was found in a bathtub, sickly and small. That's a baby that should have been taken to a hospital or taken care of, not just abandoned and left for smugglers to use it as a commodity.

Those children will have to grow up with the knowledge that in their youth, their own parents rented them to drug dealers. That's just asking for some mental therapy down the line. I mean how will that child be able to grow up and trust others in a guardianship role to not do somethign so horrible to them? It's going to take a lot of time and caring that they will need. Sure you could say they're too young to remember, but that doesn't change the fact that it happened to them. I would never forgive my parents for neglecting me as a child. (Oh wait).

While the Puppy Drug smuggling was more directly wrong, I think it's the indifference in the Baby Ring that makes me think that is worse. Of course that's merely my interpretation, and based on my own personal Bias.

I have to agree with Ultrawoof on this one. I myself am a HUGE animal lover and I really HATE animal abuse and murder, but doods... parent's renting out THEIR OWN CHILDREN to potentially dangerous criminals?!! Like Ultrawoof said, it's very lucky the kids were not hurt like those poor pups. VERY lucky. And luck doesn't make a situation any less wrong or 'evil'.

I'm not suprised more people complained about the poor puppies though. I've noticed that a lot of people care (or at least react more) about other cute animals than their own species. This probably highlights human's disreguard or lack of compassion towards each other. We have had a habit of being 'bas*ards' to each other over the centuries and probably through the years the species has existed. Not always the case obviously XD Just something I've noticed. Heck, even I'VE gotten more bothered about a big-eyed kitty trapped in a mine-shaft than about the people held up at the bank by robbers. It's just weird that other animals stir up these sorts of feelings rather than what seems more sense XD

And... I am now rambling, excuse me XD

*shrugs* the puppies were also -intentionally- and -uncaringly- hurt. The children were put at risk, but were not actually purposefully injured as a side-effect.

I can see both sides, honestly, but for me the baby-renting is the slightly lesser of the two evils.

It is horrible that puppies were used like that, but people have surgical procedures performed on their pets everyday. Some for the owners convenience, and some do have complications (in the medical sense). I also note that it doesn't say how the puppies died. If it was from a packet breaking, they would have everything but their pleasure centers shut down... and I can't feel massivly bad about that.

Handing off your own child to people who will use it and pass it on takes a special kind of cold.

I go with the rented babies. It's worse because these "parents" were putting their babies lives in danger. The puppies are bad too, but they're only animals. A human life is much more important.
