Ever wondered how a fight between characters from 2 different beat 'em ups would go?
Saber Tooth Games are attempting to answer. The CCG is set up to allow any 2 characters to take each other on, and even use moves/skills from other charaters/games (if they fit with 1 of their 3 stlye icons).
They have the Street Fighter 2 and Soul Calibur 3 licences for the game. Rumor has it they are working on a Guilty Gear licence.
They're giving away Promo's of the Taki and Chuni-Li decks if you're fast enough.
Edit : There is already the Penny Arcade expansion on Think Geek, playing as Gabe or Tycho. |

It is good fun. We were playing with print-outs until Friday.
But a friend went here, and got 2 profesionally produced decks sent out free. |

Hrm... coul dbe interesting. Would have to see it played to get it, but could be pretty interesting. Might go get the decks anyway, although I'd rather see Talim than Taki (anone else notice that it's two women, and the two women in their game that are drooled over by the fanboys?) |

Well, I'm gettin me some promo decks. They're free, so if I don't like it, I can sell 'em off later when they gain value. But I can see this being really fun. Although I hope they do make cards for some of the more underappreciated characters, and not just the popular ones.
Even more so, this looks to blow that game that's only available at Blockbuster out of the water. |

Silver :
Taki has been with the serise since Soul Blade. Chun-Li has been with her franchise since World Warriors... so its got drooling fan boys and history geeks paying attention. And if they gave Ryu away, how many would not bother collecting?
I really hope they pay attention to the under appreciated character too. The fact that Dan is in the art work for one of Chun-Li's promo cards gives me hope.
Nogrick :
Game only available at Blockbusters ? |

Yeah, I forget what it's called, but they had the licenses from Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat and it's along the same premise, but it's only available at Blockbuster, so it doesn't get much advertisement or league play. |

Got my test decks yesterday.
The game starts out seeming pretty complicated, but once you get the idea, its really not that tough.
It's a one on one only thing, and 1 card can have many different uses. For instance, you play one character card to start, if you get another character card in your hand, you can use it as a block card.
I played a game with Girkon last night and we got through it. Learning things as we went along. The game left me with a list of questions which I emailed to sabertooth games.
The concept is interesting. There are actually 2 different areas of play... The card pool and the staging area.
When you play a card, it goes into the card pool. At the end of your turn, any attacks or blocks are discarded. Support cards like Foundations and Assets that were successfully played are put into the staging area for later use. Attack cards that successfully do damage can be turned into momentum which helps play abilities on other cards.
The terms are different of course. Ready is used for "untap" and commit is used for "tap."
Playing cards is different... each card has a difficulty which is the number in the top left. To successfully play a card in your card pool, you have to make a control check. You discard a card from your library and there is a number at the bottom right, that's the control number. If you meet or beat the difficult with the control number, the play is successful. If you have cards in your staging area from previous turns, you can commit (tap) them to make the difficulty -1 for each. This makes it so that cards are much easier to play later in the game b/c you can just tap all your staging cards. However, if you use a card toward your control check, you can't use its ability. That makes sense though.
For the most part, it's pretty fun. I'm actually thinking of going out and looking for the Penny Arcade sets to see if I can get cards. |

Does anyone know when this game is going to be released? I think I'll put in to get the test decks, if they have any yet, but I'd like to know an actual release date, if any. Also, in one of the last issues of InQuest Gamer (I think the one with Tesya on the cover...for all the Magic fans) there are images of some of the Penny Arcade cards. If I can get my scanner up and running, I'll scan them for everyone to see. |
