It's as we expected. We're probably looking at $250

Nintendo indicates Wii pricing
Price tags underline affordability; the Wii will not exceed $250 in America.

Nintendo has announced the price point for its new living-room console, the Wii, which will be launched globally in Q4 2006. Although for now the pricing is not exact, it will not exceed $250 in America or 25,000 yen in Japan. No estimate was announced for the European market, but the indication given was that it would be a "similar, affordable price".

In addition Nintendo said it was expecting to ship six million consoles between its launch date and the end of March next year, as well as 17 million games.

The news comes hot on the heels of an earlier posting by the company of a 19 percent drop in annual profits, and a warning that results for the current financial year would be 3.5 percent lower than previously thought.

However, Nintendo still expects sales to grow by 18 percent globally, based on continuing sales of the Nintendo DS and hopes for a successful Wii launch. The DS Lite, a new, sleeker version of the twin-screen handheld, is due to launch on June 11 in America and June 23 in Europe, and new key titles such as New Super Mario Bros. will no doubt cause sales spikes globally.

Nintendo's pricing decision will compare directly with key Japanese rival Sony, whose PlayStation 3 console will ship for a significantly higher price at around the same time, up to $599 for the top-end model.

I'm still betting on $199, considering the current Yen to Dollar exchange rate. I just hope they supply enough of them. The DS was tricky to get for a little while there, as was the GBA when it first released. I can't wait to see what the launch titles will be...

Based on what I've read and the conversations I've had with Ultrawolf regarding the Wii, I think $250 is a very fair price to pay, and it's cheap enough that I may just be reserving a Wii for myself, even though I don't normally do the brand-new console thing.

I wanted to get a PS3, but at $600, I don't forsee myself getting one for a VERY long time. Too rich for my blood...

yeah the ps3 is currently off my list for launch.

The Wii however... I'm all over it.

And GD, I wouldn't be a bit surprised at a $200 price tag, since that's the price that every other nintendo home console has been priced at when it launched.

Well I'll probably get it for $250 but not at launch, I'll still want something to play. I'm not going to get it and then look at it until something I want (and feel is worth it) comes out Pokemon, Yugioh, Smash Bros, etc).I also need three games at minimum to justify a console purchase.
Another issue of mine is that, like early DS games, I expect the newest stuff to use the controller in some stupid gimmicky way that actually detracts from gameplay (over a more traditional control method) so I'll wait. I'd say it'll more than likely be $200 when I get one anyway.

I'm on board with all that Ultra said 'cept Marvel and Rayman.

The thing is... do we know for sure that these are launch titles?

I looked back in my mind's eye and recalled my history of console purchases and the only ones I've ever bought at launch were
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
none.

I'm sorry guys but a Real Gamer I may be but that's what prohibits me from jumping on the "Gotta have it first" bandwagon. The value of a purchase is predicated by the "cost to use" ratio. Buying a console at launch with a handful of games doesn't pan out when I factor in the (usually) ridiculous cost. I'll buy games on launch day (SFII SCE and Twisted Metal Black come to mind) but the console is like a car...if I got no gas for it, I got no use for it. I *may* reserve the Wii for launch if the launch lineup fleshes out to my prefs but the PS3 is a 12-month down the road purchase for now.

Hitting the lottery would change that tho.
