(I know this should be in the video game section but I may swear 6 or 17 times during the transcription)
Ok, PROOF that X-box is the debil.
This new X-box game that came out is called Steel Batallion. The price tag is a cool $199 for the game and the UNGODLY 40 button controller that goes with it. I don't oppose a nice lookin joystick with pedals or anything but WHERE THE HELL DO YOU PUT IT?! I have a Joystick for my comp and at one time had pedals for my Flight sims but I had a computer desk. How many people have an X-box desk?! Also, this controller works on ONE game and so far unless there's a sequal it will ONLY work for this ONE game. Sure, the game looks and plays good but wait, how many levels are there? Lets ask EB, "Operate a strategic battle mech weapon through 12 action-packed levels," 12?! Not 120, not 21, 12! What the hell is that?!
Oh, I'd say that the X-box LIVE feature would be its only redeeming quality BUT IT ISN'T SUPPORTED! I guess that's ok based on the fact that EVERY X-box game you play requires you pay a nice fee to play it on top of your internet connection. PS2 seems to allow ANYONE to connect for free and Game Cube you do haveta pay for PSO BUT you don't have to pay a monthly charge to use their system. And if PSO wasn't such a communitive game you would not have to pay.
Penny Arcade does seem to like this game but to simply get INTO your mech they state that there are at LEAST 8 differnet buttons and functions you must utalize.
I LOVE the way the controller looks and the game is a decent idea, don't get me wrong. But it's a $200 piece of hardware that will ONLY work on the game it comes with. This goes back to light guns, which I oppose. BUT at least light guns are sold with games and raise the price a whole $10. I just don't like them since there is a VERY limited use to them.
Oh well, if you're an X-box fan feel free to rebuttle but all I can say is by the time Microsoft gets off their collective asses and starts to sign games that perform well on their system at least enough to make PS2 scared there will be a PS3 which is set to debut early 2004 and is said to be 1000 times stronger AND faster than PS2. So bight me you PC lovin A-holes! |

I concurr with you AzVegeta! It's insulting to our intellegence to think that gamers will go out and buy that MONSTER controller for ONE GAME. I mean, I'd be done with it if it worked with a bunch of different games, cause then it'd add a whole new level to the game play, but just ONE GAME?! And a game with only 12 LEVELS!? No way. Not even gonna cut it.

I don't know...don't get me wrong, I'm not exactly a huge XBox fan. Ok, I'm not an Xbox fan at all. But it is nice to see companies releasing cool stuff like this that a year ago wouldn't have seen the light of day outside of Japan. Until recently, only Working Designs really went all out to include cool stuff with their games. Yes, I realize Steel Battalion is a huge investment, but for the serious hardcore mech gamers out there, does the cost really matter? Now if we can just get a Gamecube keyboard out over here I'll be really happy. :p |

I can understand where you are coming from Musashi, and in a way I agree. For those people who make gaming their life and have oodles of cash that's fine for them. But the average gamer has got better things to spend his money on than ONE game. I mean, with 199.95$ you could get any NUMBER of games! Heck you can get a gamecube for that! As far as I'm concerned if I had an option between one REALLY cool game and say five pretty cool games I'd go for the five. Besides the fact that you could get a different REALLY good game for a small fraction of that. Anyway, that's my spiel.

I'm fond of the idea that you compile your resources with that of your allies to buy it. o_O
of course... I don't have an x-box, but the point stands.
I do like the direction they're going, though. All too few companies are being daring nowdays. |

I have no problem with them getting daring and all. But if you're going to release a piece of hardware like that then at least release an outlook for it. Like I said this thing works on this game and ONLY this game with no plans for it to work on any other games in the making.
Like I've been saying since day one, if it looks like a computer, plays like a computer, and the interior processor heats up and eventually breaksdown due to a lack of fans like a computer then hey, it may just be a lump of crap.
(The fan reference was for when the system was first released and people had to Exchange their boxes because the processors melted due to over-heating.) |

I'd have to agree with AzVegeta on this one, again. I mean, I'm all down with being daring. It's actually kind of cool that they're trying something new and different. I mean, as much as I know that there's NO WAY I'd buy that thing (money, mostly) I'd be really interested to try it, to see how it works. I bet it works really well. But if the controler is good for that one game only, it's just too much of an investment for me. Now, if they decided to come out with some more games that it worked on, that would be another story.
Still like to try it, though....

Ha, I prefer my good ol Mechwarrior 4 Vengence trial version on PC. I think that would have been more simple for Microsoft to just put a dam keyboard and assign the functions to it, but of course they would have sold the keyboard 199$, so we'd be screwed either way -_- .... *sucks*
Did you know that Square and an other big compagny (forgot the name) merged latly? I wonder what there next game will be ... |
