You know, I just looked back at what I've been playing this week and the list looks like this:
Tecmo Super Bowl
Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
Pokemon Gold
Pokemon TCG
Gunstar Heroes
Yu Yu Hakusho
Firepro Wrestling GBA
WWE Smackdown: SYM
NFS: HP2

Now aside from the last two, nothing is a new game. And factor in that Smackdown gets more time from me making wrestlers than actually playing them and it's really just NFS getting quality time. All of the rest I play on emulators (except when I travel when I play the real carts). Are there any really good games left? I can maybe list five off the top of my head that I know people play (GTA, GTA, Halo, GTA,...and...uh...GTA) but that about does it for the consoles. I'm just curious if I'm the only one disappointed with our "super" consoles.
Dreamcast still has them all beat.

Damn, I wish they'd make a Sega CD emu. ETERNAL CHAMPIONS!!!

And props out to Doot for my new smiley!

I for one ain't disappointed in the new stuff coming out. Sure, there's alot of overrated crap out there, but there are games with just as much artistry and excelence coming out now. The thing is that everything changes and evolves, videogames included. There are some people that hate movies filmed in color. More power to 'em, but I like 'em any way they come. Same goes with videogames.

Nod I agree with Cobbi on this one. I for one am a HUGE fan of the old school games. Very few games will ever surpass Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI for me. However, some of the new stuff is really good, and getting better. Metroid Prime is a testament to this...how to take an old school hit and make it a new masterpiece. Metroid Prime is easily the best game I've played in a long time. I try not to judge games based simply on how long they've been around, nor do I base judgments on "awesome graphics." My judgment comes from how well a game can draw me in, usually this comes down to story and gameplay.

Games like FFX, Metroid Prime, Skies of Arcadia, etc. have all drawn me in for the same reasons that FFVI, Chrono Trigger, Link to the Past, and other old school games have. For great gameplay and deep storylines that u can actually feel something for the characters you are controlling.

Of course, I am disappointed with a lot of games that are out on the "super consoles,"...That's a given. But, I think people tend to forget that crap 2D games do indeed exist.

Btw...I am playing Devil's Advocate here.....in some cases if you asked me the same question I would argue that 3D games pale in comparison to 2D games :p

Well I'm not making it a 2D vs 3D thing, both have their ups and downs. My main point was that I was excited about a lot of stuf when I bought my PS2 (and the fabulous Network Adaptor) but now that I am playing it I find myself with about 8 games of which I play maybe 3. On top of that the big games I am looking forward to are all sequels. But this is nothing new and I don't want to sound like a whiner, I just wish that someone would do something good. Not new, I know we've broken about as much ground as can be broken (with a few exceptions like .hack, for instance) but you don't have to do "new" to do "good" (I'd really settle for someone bringing over Culdcept, actually).

I'm hard to please tho, so don't take it too seriously. I'd rather play something that evolves around my playing experience than something that is just "run of the mill".

Currently looking forward to:
War of the Monsters (gotta get off my lazy butt to get it)
Pokemon Advance
Def Jam Vendetta
Halo on PS2 (I wish)
seeing my lottery numbers drawn
