For those who don't know, Popular Culture and Philosophy is a series of books collecting philosophical essays based on various popular culture topics.
The list of books can be seen at Open Court's website:
http://www.opencourtbooks.com/categories/pcp.htm
Currently, I have the Simpsons, the Matrix, and the Undead and Philosophy books. While I was a philosophy minor in college, the essays are not terribly difficult to read or understand, so you shouldn't be discouraged if you're interested. And most give a whimsical and sometimes even silly take on a particular subject, for example, the Badness of being Undead.
So if you're interested, I would definiately reccommend the series. The Matrix and Philosophy actually has an essary written by an old professor of mine, and the upcoming The Beatles and Philosophy is actually edited by ANOTHER professor of mine. Cool stuff actually. |

I can also recommend this series. I have Simpsons, Matrix, More Matrix, and I've been eyeing several others, like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and the like. Amazing how much material there is for analysis in pop culture if you really go for it. |

Sorry for the Thread Necromancy here, but I was just glancing at Open Court's website and found that coming in 2008 will be "World of Warcraft and Philosophy" and "Anime/Manga and Philosophy". I found this particularly funny, and thought that some people may appreciate it.

It looks like they're all pretty cheap if you order them directly from the website...only $12 each. I'm all over the WoW and Philosophy book when it comes out...I can't wait to see what they do for it.
Now if only someone could get them to do Firefly/Serenity and Philosophy... |

I'm surprised they haven't, actually. And I'm really behind on collecting up the pop culture and philosophy series books that I'm interested in. Maybe when I get money again. |

$12 is out of the price range for someone who won't be working for another year and a half and only has about $100 left from when she was. But they're definitely on my 'someday, when I have money again' list. |
