some of you may or may not have heard of a game called mage knight. id hope most of you have heard of miniature war gaming. it started with a game called chess
well like 20 years ago a game called warhammer came around and revolutionized wargaming. it made it customizable, but at a large price (games workshop, the company who made it, likes money more than the next person). but it was something of beauty to behold if you were willing to put the necessary time and money into it. out of warhammer many imitations spawned, not many succeeded.
then in november of 2000 something new came around. Mage Knight. it was a war game that was something new and different. i couldnt explain the story as well as a maker of the game such as demomonkey or weisman could, but it did well. it was EASILY affordable and the rule book was only 12 pages as compared to warhammers 200 page rule book. every figure has everything you need to know about it right on the dial, instead of having to buy a book to know what the figure does. the figures come prepainted and pre assembled, so theres a lot less money in maintenance, allowing you to get more figures for less money. and guess what? the game worked. people flocked to it (not where i live of course, thats just god hating me again) and it started doing very well. soon it was the number one game of the year, with multiple number 1 game expansions and base sets.
over time it has evolved into 3 games: dungeons, rebellion, and conquest.
rebellion is the oldest form of the game. it is based on skirmish fighting with like 2-10 figures depending on point build and size of figures. its the fastest moving, and very easy to get into, but hardest to stay competetive in.
dungeons is RPG dungeon crawling fun. it is based on assembling a team of heroes and going into a dungeon and killing monsters, collecting treasure, facing off against other teams, and getting out... alive. its the most confusing, and easiest to poor lots of money into and get more than you expect out of in the three.
conquest is all about playing armies of numerous amounts of figures. when i say numerous, i mean in vast vast quantities. my orc conquest army has over 100 figures in and its always growing. its the most fun and most time consuming of the 3.
so if you play the game, have heard of it, or whatever, just post away, there has to be other players out there. |

umm...i believe that u forgot Crimson Skies as well justin.
Anywho, i play Mageknight as well...its a very fun game indeed. It takes place in medival times (or somehwat medival). In the game, there are numerous factions that you can play with also
Atlantas Guild: Lots of Magic and such. Loads of range, and lots of really cool golems, including my favorite: Storm Golem (lots of killing goodness )
Black Powder Rebels: A rebellion that is basically fighting for their cuase, and they are the main characters in whatever story the game has. They have decent stuff
Necropolis Sect: Need i say more? Its undead, and lots of dead recursion, and such. Also, lots of irritating pieces, such as the zombies
Elemental League: Lots of interesting thingies, such as spellcasters, to big fat...fatties
Orc Raiders: Also...need i say more? Lots of good ol' green there to kick some arse.
Knights Immortal: The kings of Defending...they are pains in the ass, and they can tell you about it...cause they never die
Mage Spawn: The little critters that have no faction
Shyft: Not that big, but can be in whatever faction they want
Draconum: Big dragons...that do MAJOR damage. They are basically an "only unique" faction, but they have had some non-uniques...but its not common.
Solonavi: These dudes that are translucent, who do loads of damage. They are basically there to rival the draconum...and their major beefiness
well, in case u all wanted to know, im a Atlantis guild / Black powder rebel player. all u gotta do is ph34r me from afar and ph34r my storm golem / Magus (muah!!)

i think you messed up a bit there mike, Shyft can make formations with mage spawn, cus spawn cant formation on their own. also heres my overview (you forgot a faction)
Atlantis Guild: lots of ranged pieces. from golems (which they have the monopoly on) to magi to some of the best ranged pieces in the game they are the most annoying faction there is.
Black Powder Rebels: rebels fighting against the guild, they have been known to ally themselves with orcs and atlantis at times depending upon who they are fighting against. they have a few golems, coupled with dwarves amazons and desert nomads. they are primarily ranged based, but have strong melee.
Draconum: the original big bad unique faction, they have 11 uniques, as compared to their 4 different non uniques. they are fun on a bun, and while hard to play in mono faction armies they make great centre pieces for serious armies.
Elemental League: masters of healing all around, they have more healers than any 2 other factions in the game. they also have a lot of trolls, including the infamous troll artillerist and troll gunner. they focus mainly on staying in the fight.
Heroes: these guys are the stars of Dungeons. in order to make a heroic team you have to have heroes, you know? they are also pretty good in rebellion games because they can be scaled to lvl 1 thru 5 depending upon whether you want a grunt fighter or a centre piece. they are less used in non dungeons due to their lower than average defense however.
Knights Immortal: snooty high elf knights who think they own the world. they are the rivals to the orc raiders and they are very effective close combat fighters with range being few and far between. they recently allied themselves with atlantis with interesting results.
Mage Spawn: the wandering monsters of the MK world, they play a key part in dungeons where they are used as the primary form of monsters for the heroes to fight against. also very useful in rebellion and conquest where they can be effective as loners or with a formation of shyft.
Necropolis Sect: The legions of evil. the sect has all things dark, from undead, to vampires, to dark elf fighters, to necromancers. these guys specialize in necromancy, vampirism, stealth, limited invisibility, and several other things. they currently have one of the only 14" moving flyers in the game, and only one for an affordable price. they also have lots of toughness and quickness which are nice abilities, they are currently the worst faction in the game but they have a lot of good pieces and they should be getting more in the future.
Orc Raiders: if you cant figure it out, these guys are bands of orcs who do one thing. raid. they raid everything there is. and then they raid some more. they have some of the best cheap melee in the game. but thats not fair to say. these guys are the most melee oriented faction in the game to the point they rival Knights. they, however, have more healing. they typically have lower defense, but that just makes them easier to heal, and with such cheap pieces, coupled with several notable good ranged pieces they are loads of fun to play.
Solonavi: its hard to describe these guys without showing you a picture. they are translucent green fighters hailing from parts unknown with promises of greatness to those willing to accept their favors. they rival the draconum, have great ranged pieces and are the only other faction with 14" moving flyers. they have one of the best pieces in the game, the striker.
and for the record, im a necropolis player and an orc player. i specialize in throwning wave after wave of zombies at you, or showing you how to fight melee the tried and true orc way. smash into little bits, and when they might be dead, smash some more. |

I'v played Mage Knight before. Here in Ann Arbor there a ton of people who play it. The locale RPG/comic/card game/minatures store "The Underworld" even has huge tournaments for it.
Have you seen or heard about the new Battle Mech minatures?
