Im getting a new cell phone with my contract renewal next week and I can drop a couple hundred bucks on it. I really would like Bluetooth capability and MP3 playback, but as for other functions and what phones to look at, Im stumped.
ANyone that would like to chime in with suggestions of phones to look at, what kind of phones they have and why they like them, or even why I should or shouldnt want a particular feature (like Windows based phones vs non), Im open to suggestions.
Tell me what to do ^^ |

What provider? That may influence some suggestions, since not all phones are necessarily available across all providers. |

I can try to help. I've worked for Cingular for...almost 5 years now. There's a lot to factor in, so just let me know if I can help.
Being on the corporate side gives me a little bit of the inside action on what"s good and what"s bad.
Provider is the most important...then its a case of what phone type/manufacturer...then the functions. Anything worth much of anything in our line has Bluetooth...MP3 playback is predominantly Motorola for the most stable platform.
That's the best I can think of right now...I've enjoyed the Moto SLVR...but its a pain b/c its not a flip phone, that got me hooked.
I think we still have the RAZR, and the KRAZR...not sure what we offer as far as higher tech that supports Windows...I knowit is Cingular branded.
Just let me know.... |

Gah! I forgot to tell you what service >_<
Im with Cingular, for one. For two, I dont mind dropping a couple hundred bucks on a good phone. Ive only ever had this joe-bob phone and for once I want something kick ass.
I was looking at the SLVR in the cingular store the other day, but its almost too small - and it so LONG, its kinda weird feeling. But admittedly I only held it for a minute. What I looked at more seriously was a Sony Walkman W810i, which seemed to fit nice in my hand and have several features.
....But there no denying how undenyablly cool the Blackjack is. And its cool. Sure Id have to grab up the data package, but I was thinking of doing that anyway. Ive always felt more afraid of my cell phone because I didnt wanna accedentally rack up a bunch of online kilobytes and have to pay a wad of cash - so with I data plan I wouldnt have to worry about it.
Everyone that Ive talked to that owns a RAZR doesnt really like it, I hear from several sources they get poor reception. But I dont know if they have V3i RAZRs or not.
So confused!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Buy a phone. A simple friggin phone. Almost all of them now come with bluetooth for the headsets. As far as a camera, web browser, mp3 player, shiatsu massage device, cheese grater, toe nail clipper, and nose hair trimmer...forget it. It's just more crap you don't need and you know you don't need to play for. Sure, web browsing is fun, but do you need it? How often have you been out with your wife and thought...I need to check the weather, get a list of concerts in Denton, check movie times, balance my taxes...never. By a phone and bluetooth headset. take the extra money, buy an MP3 player and a new memory stick for the camera, or a new camera. |

Well if you are hell bent, go big or go home. Buy the Blackberry. That's a little mini comp. It'll do whatever, whenever you want. Or ask Kevin, he should have some cool ideas. |

Well, I went with the W810i above. So far Im pretty pleasd with it - but it seems liek any phone you get theseadays wants you to get a data package with it. The neatness is that with this phone, I could have streaming music from the internet with a data package - but I just dont get out enough for that. The MP3 functionality will be just fine, expandable memstick (Griallick is sending me a spare gig) and its doubles as a bad asscamera 2.0 mega pixel.
So Im teh happy.
Oh, and Im buying a bluetooth ear bud this weekend for work. Probably not for personal use though. |

Warning: Double post!
I went into looking at ear buds fully expecting to spend a bill. I initailly began looking at the Sony Ericcson's own HBH-PV702, but I knew I didnt have to stick with Sony when it came to my blue tooth options (thank you bluetooth gods )
My next hit was the slleek, smaller HS820 by Motorola. Looked nice, professional looking and have good performance reveiws from users. But my biggest concern was background noise. Im in a large and in charge, diesal guzzeling, stick shift box truck with both doors wide open moving at 60 miles an hour going up highway 5 in traffic - so theres a lot goign on around me.
The man at the cingular store finally sold me on this jewel, and though I bought it on his suggestion, all the reviews Ive read at Cnet, amazon, and elsewhere have made me think Ive made a wise purchase.
Behold, the disturbingly named Jawbone.
Ill try it out tonight at the noisy pbu were going to for food, friends, and green beer (with Aradia, Faye, and some of our slightly less geeky friends) and let you know how it works out for me. Huzzah! |
