Well folks, I've decided that I need to change my diet. Let's start out by defining diet for a minute. Most people think of a diet as a temporary eating plan, used to help reduce weight/fat. While that is an example of a diet, it's really just what kind of foods you eat, period. If you eat 3 cheeseburgers a day, guess what, that's your diet! Now, I recently picked up this sweet book, "The Abs Diet" by David ZincZenko, and the principle behind this "diet" is it's simplicity and non-extreme approach. Things like Atkins or the Grapefruit diet are what I consider Extreme, and you are left feeling hungry. This one really doesn't, it's designed to keep you full. Now I'm not going to sit here and pitch the book to you, hehe, you can choose any plan you want. I want this thread to be a sort of guidline for those of us wanting to get fit. I'll go ahead and post a smoothie from the book. I made it today and it filled me up big time, and it's crazy healthy for you. So here it is
1 cup lowfat/skim milk (I use Horizon reduced fat)
2 Tablespoons of low-fat nilla yogurt
3/4 cups of cooked instant oatmeal
2 teaspoons of peanut butter (I use natural/organic)
2 teaspoons of whey powder (the book says to use chocolate, I use nilla)
and 6 crushed Ice cubes
Blend it all up, drink it down, and be prepared to be full!
I'll post something new tomorrow
Also, while I'm not trying to push the book, I do recommend it.

Seems everyone is getting on a diet/exercise kick. Rollergirl and I just started (well i kinda RE started, i've been lax) started weight training, cardio and diet. Haven't seen the book you mentioned -T, may have to take a gander at it one day.
I used The Dash Diet Plan (author escapes me) and exercise when i was diagnosed wtih pre-hypertension. I dropped from 200lbs to 150lbs and got my blood pressure under control in about 5-6 months.
You should check out Traineo for tracking your diet, weight and overall progress.
Good Luck -T! |

Terin, I actually have "The Abs Diet" book that you mentioned...and I can't agree more...it's great. Unfortunately, I got out of my routine of following it when I started my new job, but when I was following it, I was eating really well and was feeling really good. I really like the fact that he gives you good physiological evidence about why the foods that he suggests are not only healthy, but will actually help you lose weight. And it's really nice that for the first couple of weeks he says that exercise is optional. It really gives you the opportunity to get used to one lifestyle change before incorporating another.
He also gives a lot of good guidelines that are surprisingly easy to follow, and his recipes are pretty good. I love making the "Chili Con Turkey" recipe.
What is this Traineo thing that you guys are talking about? I really need to get myself in shape, and I could use all the tools, help, and motivation I can get. |
