Are they stupid?

Ok here's what's going on, I live in Alabama, and we have been in Code red ozone layer, for about two months. We haven't had rain in two months, we've had a few small sprinkles over the last 2 days but it's not enough to do anything. Now this is what gets me, since we are in a huge drought the paper has issued out a warning to those who water their lawn using automatic sprinklers, that if you are caught using them, you will be fined and put in jail for 10 days. That makes sense, since we're in a huge drought, be more conservitive.

But I got out yesterday, and I noticed the pesticide trucks going around spraying for bugs. BUGS? Bushii? Why we don't have any water around for mosquitoes, there is no need to be going around spraying pesticides out of those trucks, when we already have enough ozone damage as it is. We are in a drought. Not to mention the fact that ever since that fire happened it blew the smoke over this way, so our weather is really smoky. AND YOU WANT TO SPRAY PESTICIDE, ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL US?

I just don't understand what the hell their doing, they must be idiots.

Edit: One of the very many reasons why I hate Alabama.

I saw a tumbleweed today. o.o No joke.

But yeah, that is sort of idiotic, but the pesticide companies have to make their money somehow. Also, bugs are still plenty able to thrive.

Not that I agree with it, but it's going to happen.

well, you don't necessarily need rain, rather just stagnent pools. And stagnent pools can be anything from septic pools to just a plain ol pond that may not have a lot of water. as long as there's a pool of water, or a puddle, you can have mosquitos thriving.

My main problem is with ants...fortunatley they are just sugar ants that don't bite and sting like those nasty fire ants.

But even with the pest control guys spraying their normal bit, they still attack the house...and they're all over outside too. They want water just like anything else.

Other than that, I've been pretty good. It seems like ever since I got interested in gardening, bugs leave me alone. I used to be a total mosquito magnet where you could count the bites on my lets up into the dozens during the summer.

well on the first part, the moisture issue is understandable. kinda screwy due to the current super active sun and i often wonder if a series of very moist years threw off the average.

on the ozone issue, birmingham and that part of AL are particularly bad as long as i have known it. but that issue has less to do with the heat than the people clustering there and the old steel/mill activity

on the spraying...YES THEY ARE TRYING TO KILL YOU! HUMANS ARE THE GREATEST PEST TO LIFE ON EARTH!!! after all...look at how they inconvenience all the local animals....and me.
