I was reading through the latest issue of InQuest Gamer yesterday, and they did a HUGE preview of lots of games to come in 2006. Amongst them was the World of Warcraft card game. They believe that as long as Upper Deck does a good job on the game (which is very likely as they did an excellent job on Vs.), that this game is going to be extremely popular, and if they can manage to get even just a small percentage of onlione WoW players to buy cards, then they will do extremely well sales-wise. They are also predicting that if it does well, it will give industry leader Magic: the Gathering a big run for its money. If anyone is interested in the InQuest article, I can scan it as it's not available online, but here is an article I found on GameSpy:

http://www.gamespy.com/articles/643/643657p1.html

I, personally, refused to get involved with online WoW, but I'm a sucker for a good card game, so I will most likely be picking this up when it's released and get my fill of WoW that way.

As an update it looks like the card game is gonna be getting an October release. So far it's looking to be very interesting spec-wise. Saying that Raid Level decks can be made for the PC cards to tackle.

Ok, so in this month's issue of InQuest Gamer magazine, there was a good article about the game, which is due out this fall. Blizzard actually posted scans of the article online, so here they are. It's a little tough to read, I think, but I'm sure you can all manage.

I'm getting really exited about it. I think it's gonna be great, particularly the raid decks.

But anyway...here are the links....

So I signed up for the news updates from Upper Deck Entertainment (UDE) for this game. I recently got an e-mail that they're starting to take pre-orders for starter decks and booster boxes. Starters are $14.99 and come with 3 oversized character cards, a 33 card deck, and 2 booster packs. A little expensive, but I think I'm gonna get one anyway. The booster boxes are $93.99, which seems overly expensive, although I'm sure you'll be able to get them from 3rd parties for better prices. They come with 24 booster packs of 15 cards each.

They've also updated their website so it has a lot of info now. It's worth checking out.

www.ude.com/wow

EDIT: They've started card previews and have started to add more content to the website. Also, you can now check out some of the artwork for a few cards. I gotta say, this game is looking better and better everytime I read something about it.

So far, the game looks like it's going to be really good. I'm not a WoW player, but the flavor of the game looks dead on as far as I can tell. And the artwork looks to be phenomenal.

Here's the art for a card called "Forbidden Knowledge". I don't know what it does, nor do I really care....all I know is that it's done by one of my favorite Magic card artists of all time, Greg Staples.

Forbidden Knowledge

And here's the art for another card which appears to be an Orc hero. Tobs thinks he'll be a blademaster, but that was a guess based on Warcraft 3, as neither of us play WoW.

Zygore Bladebreak

And, they even got Boris Vallejo to do some card art...

Winter's Grasp

And the latest email from Blizzard says...

WoW: The Trading Card Game Launches in October
Upper Deck Entertainment has teamed up with Blizzard to produce the official World of Warcraft trading card game set to launch in October 2006!
In this new perspective on the World of Warcraft universe, each player will take the role of a hero with its own faction, class, talent spec, race, and professions. Just like in the online game, these traits help determine your play style and how you plan to crush the competition. A number of unique features characterize the card game and tie into the epic nature of the World of Warcraft experience. Mirroring the excitement of raid groups, raid decks allow a number of players to take on powerful, epic monsters like Onyxia the Black Dragon. You can team up with your friends to take down the mighty raid boss, or play the deck yourself and battle as Onyxia!

In addition, World of Warcraft TCG decks include randomly placed loot cards. These ultra rare cards have an online code unlocking exclusive cosmetic upgrades to your World of Warcraft online character! Look for an announcement with more specifics regarding loot cards in the near future.

The World of Warcraft TCG features the work of some of the top fantasy artists in the business, including Darrell Sweet, Greg Staples, Greg Hildebrandt, and R.K. Post. Blizzard artists such as Samwise Didier, Glenn Rane, and Justin Thavirat have also contributed to the World of Warcraft TCG, and even a few unique perspectives from creators Todd McFarlane and Gabe from Penny Arcade grace some of the cards. You can check out art pieces and profiles of the artists themselves on the game's official website.

The website also features daily new content, including exclusive art, spoilers for cards, interviews, and articles by the design team, as well as profiles of Upper Deck Entertainment employees and their World of Warcraft online characters.

The World of Warcraft trading card game goes on sale this October, starting with the official debut at the Essen Game Fair in Germany. You can find the game on sale in the U.S. the following week, with an expected street date of Wednesday, October 25.

Am I an even bigger geek for wanning to play the CCG too?

The driving force behind me wanting, to play is the loot cards that have codes to unlock cosmetic improvments to my character.

Yeah.... I think I just answered my own question. I'm going to go play more WoW now.
