It had been so long since I pushed my body past it's breaking point that I truly forgot what the sensation feels like. It truly does feel exhilarating; almost a heightened sense of things. Food and drink tastes sweeter, I can taste the air around me.

I used to have this feeling all the time when I exercised very regularly and did manual labor for a living. It is kind of depressing to realise that I had gone so long without it. I know this is kind of a random post, but there is a point I assure you.

I ran about 5 miles today; about halfway through I started to feel pain so I ran faster. The pain got stronger so I kept running harder and harder till I didn't feel any pain anymore. It was almost walking on air. I knew I was in pain and my muscles were pumping battery acid; it didn't matter.

Once I finished, I walked into the apartment, devoured a bowl of ox tail and short rib stew, drank a liter of orange juice, and took a shower with the water on it's hottest setting. I have to say that was the best food, drink, and shower I've taken in about 2 years. I am typing it now just because I just felt like talking about it.

You might think I am a little strange, but I'll be damned if I don't want to feel that way again. I suppose it is true, pain is the road markers in the map that is our mind. They always will point to our strongest memories for better or worse.

Well, what you probably just felt was a runner's high. Yay for Cardio-released endorphines!

Anyways, your main point, pain. Markers of your life. There is a line between liking it, and recognizing it. I often remember painful times, they make you who you are, and are sometimes more memorable than the happiest times.

But then there is using pain. Using pain as a tool to enhance another feeling, or take away from it. Just, that can't always be good. It's often dangerous. Pain is dangerous, pain is our body telling us we've gone too far. Bodies don't like pain, but when pain is gone, that's certainly nice. Now, I once achieved pain in different ways, to either create memories of a moment into my physical memory and psychological memory or to help me forget at a particular time. Where is the line of pain drawn?

Where does the pleasure stop and the danger begin?

yeah i remember that days in HS where i got up and worked out with the football team. it was so much fun and nothing matches the joys of pushing the body to its limits for the adrenaline and endorphines....

I'm not sure if this was intentional or not, but I find it interesting that you chose to use this quote, which is from the movie Fight Club, which (in ways) touches on pretty much this same idea. If it was intentional, +100 points for an awesome quote subtle and tie-in. If it wasn't intentional...that's pretty eerie...

Ankanari:

Well I did type that in the heat of the moment, but I have always been fond of pushing my body to it's physical limits, and see if I can break them. There are certain types of pain that are good and in many ways enlightening, but it is very circumstance dependent, and requires alot of discretion.

Ming:

Actually that was unintentional (of course if could have been a freudian slip), it is just the feeling when you run hard enough you can feel the lactic acid burn.
