Quote: | $25,000 Chocolate Sundae Sets Guinness Record

A $25,000 chocolate sundae? - What kind of a person would pay $25,000 for a sundae or any kind of dessert? Is this the gilded age? Have we lost it completely? The expensive dessert that has gold shavings has made the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's priciest sweet, reports the New York Daily News.
$25,000 Chocolate Sundae Sets Guinness Record
"Frrrozen Haute Chocolate" has officially become the most expensive dessert on the planet. The indulgent delicacy is being offered at Serendipity 3 Restaurant in New York City's Upper East Side. The dessert is made with a blend of 28 rare and exotic cocoas from around the world, whipped cream, black truffle shavings, and 23 karat edible gold.
***
The Post Chronicle reports that so far, no one's ordered the extravagant dessert, dubbed the Frrrozen Haute Chocolate. But New Yorkers have ponied up for other fancy fare recently, including $1,000 pizza and $55 mac-and-cheese, the newspaper said. And the restaurant also serves a $1,000 sundae, the Golden Opulence Sundae, another record-holder.
More photos are provided in a link in a story here and get this - they don't just pull it out of the freezer - Chefs require two weeks' notice to make the posh treat, allowing time for the elite ingredients to make the trek to New York. On would hope.
***
Let's face it: It's not for everybody, restaurant owner Stephen Bruce told the Post. The restaurant was a setting in the 2001 movie Serendipity, with John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale. |
I bet it tastes like ass. Somehow I don't think gold or mushrooms make for very good ice cream toppings. Then again, rich people eat a lot of crap that doesn't really sound very appetizing. And they pay top dollar for it. Hey...that gives me an idea... |

From what I read, a lot of the cost comes from the gold goblet it comes in and the gold spoon that you eat it with, which presumably you get to keep. But seriously, I'm sure you can get something at Dairy Queen for less than $5 that tastes better. |

reaper FTW! | That's the secret, the desert is so good it kills the person instantly from sensory overload, thus removing the buyer from the gene pool.
Now if the money earned from it goes to a scholarship, that would be perfect. |
