Semi Pro and my opinion on Will Farrell

Ultrawolf and I went to the Black Curtain showing of Semi Pro yesterday, and it wasn't as great as I expected. They hyped the hell out of it, and Andre 3k and Will Ferrell popped into the theater for a few words, then popped out and let the movie start. (I'll post the 2 pics I got as soon as I can upload them from my SD card.) Now onto the move.

To be brutally honest, if you've seen the trailers, you've seen the best parts of the movie. It doesn't touch the hilarity of Talladega Nights, it's more like a filler movie while awaiting the next big comedy of the year. Will Ferrell, as much as I like him, is in fact playing the same high-strung self-absorbed goofball that he has played in Anchorman, Talladega Nights, Blades of Glory, and now Semi-Pro. I loved that character the first few times, but it's starting to wear me thin. In short, if you haven't seen any of the movies I've just mentioned, and you haven't seen the trailer, you'll probably enjoy it much more. It's a rental at most. Story isn't extremely deep, nothing really draws you in. I doubt I'll remember any of the lines a week from now, aside from what I'll see in the trailer.

Now I might have contradicted what I said about W.F. earlier, since I just spent a good paragraph bashing his character. I want you to understand, I loved Stranger than Fiction. Elf, while a child's show, was perfect for him. He has this innocent boyish charm that draws people in. I think he's a perfect support character (Old School, Zoolander), but he's wearing out his 1 character type by doing the same movies.
