PSP video released.
Game is called "God of War: Chains of Olympus" and it is a prequel!

Kotaku has the video

Looks pretty damn good considering it's a PSP game and GoW2 took every oz of power the PS2 had.

Also talk about a free UMD demo, but don't see where to get that. Will update if I find it.

Edit:
Get the demo here.

Wow... just... Wow.

Sony's Gamer's Day just passed and they had a TON of new stuff. Some amazing things are coming out.

The also had Chains of Olympus there!

And it looks INCREDIBLE.

*snuggles psp*

1up has a great preview.

Previews: God of War PSP
Impressions, video, screens, and control scheme details.

VIDEO: Click on the image above to watch the first few minutes of Chains of Olympus.

God of War: Chains of Olympus starts as any God of War does. You drop in on a small group of enemies, slash away at a few of them with your chains, and perform a series of combos before doing much of anything else. It's a short scene that makes the game instantly feel like God of War, and we checked out a few minutes of it at a Sony press event yesterday.

Once you clear that first area and take off the training wheels, you fire a ballista at the approaching ships in the background (ballistas will be back over the course of the game) before moving on to the next environment, an indoor area with wooden walls. But here's where things start to get interesting. After slashing through a few more drones, you come across a Cyclops carrying a giant wooden tree trunk/bat with spikes all over. The camera zooms in and presents this as an extremely dramatic scene, which at the end requires you to jam on the Circle button to push the tree trunk away to avoid being crushed.

Then a Basilisk (pictured below) pokes its head in and literally eats the Cyclops.

This triggers the real first boss fight -- a multipart affair that begins much like the Hydra battle from the original God of War. It starts in a small enclosed wooden area with the Basilisk's face poking out at you while you attempt to attack, perform button-pressing minigames to slam it against the walls, and dance on its head.

SCREENS: We noticed one new move for Kratos where he grabs an enemy in the air with his chains and pulls them in, only to kick them away like a midair horizontal yo-yo (not pictured). Click the image above to check out all Chains of Olympus screens.

Though Sony confirmed there will be other segments of this fight -- it is the first boss fight in a God of War game, after all -- this is where Sony's demo presentation ended, so we can only guess at what happens next. One thought: perhaps the battle takes to the water, as in mythology a Basilisk has the ability to move around on the ocean's surface.

We didn't get the chance to go hands-on with the game at the event, but we were able to pick up more information on the control scheme so we can imagine how it plays. We should note that this control setup is not confirmed as final at this point, as the developers are still looking at things and figuring out how to tune them properly. But currently, the layout being kicked around puts block on the L button, magic on R, and evading on the analog nub when players hold down L and R simultaneously (with magic selections on the D-pad). The main drawback of this versus the PS2 controls seems to be that it will take a split second longer for players to think about how and then perform a roll, but given some of the control schemes other games have forced onto PSP -- and how many aspects were involved with God of War controls to begin with -- this seems reasonable and like a solid way to go.

It also helps drive home the point that the entire presentation seemed designed to prove: this is still God of War. It's still got most of the control features and the epic feel, and while we didn't get to see much of how the gameplay mixes in with the story, we're told it will be along the lines of what we've seen in past games. The visuals are also as good as we've seen on PSP, and the framerate in particular is looking very nice (a step up from what it looked like in the debut trailer).

We're still waiting on word of any big new gameplay mechanics in the game, as well as specifics on the magics and weapons, but this first peek has done a great job of presenting the game in a compelling way. Rest assured, we'll be back with more on the game as soon as we can track it down.

More awesome news!

As some of you MIGHT know... The latest PSP firmware update (3.50) unlocks the full power of the processor (333 MHz). Up to now, Sony has been limiting the power of the processor to 222MHz.

Well the guys making God of War have said they are going to use the full power of the processor. They also said, that all shots and videos of the game to this point were running on the old configuration which limited them to 222MHz.

They say it won't affect the graphics much, but I have a feeling it will do something for the framerate. Wink

God of War PSP Goes Full Speed
Devs confirm Chains of Olympus will run at 333MHz.
By Andrew Hayward, 06/26/2007
As reported last week, the 3.50 firmware released for the PSP in late May unlocked the Sony-imposed restrictions on the hardware, allowing games to run at a full 333MHz, but likely sacrificing battery life as a result. Cory Barlog, creative director of God of War: Chains of Olympus (and game director of God of War II), posted a message on the PlayStation.Blog yesterday confirming that Chains of Olympus will make full use of the PSP hardware, which may come as little surprise to those who have seen the game in motion.

But there's a bit more to this story. Didier Malenfant, president and cofounder of Ready at Dawn, sent a message to Kotaku last night clarifying some of the points in the original blog. According to Malenfant, all previous footage of the game was shown running at just 222MHz, but he doesn't believe that the bump will significantly affect the graphics, which they "think are already pretty awesome."

Malenfant said that a post would appear on the Ready at Dawn website in the near future to address the confusion surrounding the PSP hardware adjustment and how it relates to Chains of Olympus. With luck, it may also touch on the curious subject of 1080p visuals running on PSP hardware.

Good God!

I picked this up yesterday and saying it is the best PSP game I have ever played is not doing it near enough justice.

The game is supposed to be pretty short, but, at this point, I don't care. I think I'm about 1/2 way through already and I have a feeling I'll be playing it again.

Of course, you can't expect the grand scale that the PS2 games had, but it does a good job of getting close. So far I haven't fought the ginormous type bosses that you fight in I and II, but the scale of the stages and the environments are just as epic.

Oh... and boobies! Smile

The game is fantastic so far. If you have a PSP, go get it.
If you don't have a PSP and you like GoW, go buy one!

We'll have much more on the game on Ep 16 of InDis as all 3 of us got it yesterday and are hoping to have it completed by the time we record tomorrow.

I was looking for it last night. Seeing that I have no money, I opted for the cheap way and umm... you know.

But I couldn't find it. So I got Valkarie Profile: Lenneth.
