Thought I'd make an area just for my 3d stuff that doesn't fall under the plushie or sketch book category
^.^ Yes I'm still alive... just antisocial and busy, thought I'd show you guys what I've been up to
Beaded roses! ^-^ each one takes around 12 hours (give or take) and is made up on hundreds of tiny glass beads. Sorry the pics are so blurry their really shiny.. hehe the red one reminds me of the Magic rose from Beauty and the Beast.

My question though...how do you get the idea to make something like this? They're incredible! All the detail!
I mean, they're perfect roses! |

^-^ Thank you guys! Yes they are very shiny..whats awesome is if sunlight hits them in a dim room (I had the vase in the kitchen and a shaft of sunlight came through one of the blinds) they sparkle like mad and depending on the beads some of them cast little rainbows.
Fawkes Fyre: ^-^ its actually a very old technique.. My grandmother had talked about them being gorgeous but I had never seen any, then I ran up on a few poorly made ones in a flea market that turned me off to them, I was like "eh.. those are neat but not very pretty". this year I was looking for something to make my mother and grandmother for mothers day ( people in the family know I'm crafty....I cant just take the easy way out and buy something. They've pretty much come to expect something handmade and -I- have to up the antie every gift I make... they dont expect it but I do... Weeee Holidays are fun.)
I ran up on beaded flowers again.. and saw pictures of properly made ones and fall it love with it. Its an old technique dating back to the 1500's here's a quick copy and paste about its history.
oooooooooooooooooooooooo
it is estimated that the art was practiced across Europe and England as early as the 1500's. In an effort to support themselves, French and Italian peasants used to collect defective or discarded beads. The beads were then strung on wire and shaped in to flowers designs. The finished flowers were used in bouquets, alter displays and memorial wreaths.
ooooooooooooooooooooooo
One artist even got an idea and sent a call out through her network/ mailing list asking for a flower from each artist.... and created HUGE beaded wreaths for a 911 memorial its on display there as well as one for the Pentagon and the National Liberty Museum. I really wish I had been in on that.
You don't just have to do roses there are many different kinds of flowers that can be made with the same technique.. Roses are just a bit easier and quicker for me.. It just takes practice and patients ... its pretty mindless, I like to sit in front of the TV or on car trips ^.^ ..
Note: Do NOT attempt Beading in the car unless you are ether very brave or insane.. I've dropped packets of seed beads before that have went -everywhere- before I learned how to. |

And I get an even cooler answer than expected LoL
I can relate to the car crafts...not always a wise idea. I've dropped a bag of 4mm jump rings in the car once when I was waiting on my mom...we're still finding them. I've hit a bit of a dry spell with the chainmaille I was dabbling in...kind of a lack in resources for patterns.
I can see the basic concept on how to make the roses...sort of I just love ppl like you who have the talent in making something like this. I see the materials in the craft stores but have a really hard time putting 2 and 2 together to make something.
You're a great inspiration! |

Those are gorgeous, Sketch. I wish I had hte time/patience for such things... |
