A lack of political commentary doesn't hurt PO. The reason things have died down is because everyone is busy with their own things.
(Can I have cupcakes? pleeeeease? seriously, I am in a major cake withdrawal period because we just moved...)
That's the reason there hasn't been a holiday get-together, and a major real life event is why there wasn't much of a get together PO-wide at AWA.
Communities go through major phases. During the slower phases, those who are not "in charge" but want to remain active while the "in charge" people are busy need to take charge of their own destiny and try and set things up themselves. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but the same sorts of things happen to the people who are in charge when they try to plan things too. The difference is that those people who are in charge get a lot more flack when things don't come through.
Would *I* like to see things more active, yes. But do I blame Doot and company for it being dead? No. They need to be able to have lives too. |

I'm more of a cookies person myself, but sweet stuff is definitely persuasive in its own way. As for more stuff, well, there were a few projects in the works, I suspect, but life interferes with grand projects on an almost constant basis. Might be that we all just don't have free time for much any more. |

I completely agree with this one. However, I do notice that while there are 10 million areas of the site, most of them say inprogress. I wonder if it would be benificial to open up some of these doors and get some things done.
Being a diabetic, i opt out for the cupcakes. How about a nice bowl of life? |

Er. I think some of you are not realizing just how much TIME and MONEY goes into things like PROMOTING THE SITE at CONS. And how much TIME and MONEY they'd have to continue to spend to keep up with all the new people that come from PROMOTING the site.
And how they make no money off of this site, and how unappreciated comments like theirs might make the people who have put their hearts and souls into this community-- and are taking a much-needed break from doing so-- feel.
I understand your frustration, but you can't expect one person, or even two people, to carry the entire community on their shoulders forever. If you want something done, do it yourself, and let them have their break. |

I agree with Hoth on the idea of delegating a number of the tasks that are open for completion and getting this site back on path. We are all busy but my real question is are we motivated enough? We all have the same access to time but the importance is in our use of it.
Also on the issue of cost, would not opening commissions, memberships to longer term members w/o full PO's, and asking directly for server maintainance donations help with this. Lets look at this as a failing business and how we would rescale our efforts to regrow and build since we are too small to be bailed out other than as a buy out to part out the space on the net. If we see the posts as trades or buy ins, we need to boost the draw to get more and higher trades and thus not be dead yet. (sorry inner capitalist needed to bark at ya for a min) |
