Website idea for friend

Heya! I am building a site for a group that I volunteer for on Mondays. They are a huge christian organization that creates opportunities for inner city kids in about $1billion dollors worth of places.

They've asked me to build a site for them and this is my first mock up and wanted to hear some pros / cons.

Please be advised that the navigation and some other items haven't been added just the rough rough concept.

I like it! It has a very appropriate theme to it, and I like the cross made with the bricks. The graphic is also very good as well as a the text field.

I'm not too gifted in the various technical elements of the design, but you might want to consider blending the background in with the picture a little. It seems too crisp and sharp to go along with the rough brick pattern.

I kind of want to see how the elements of the page will play out on that background. I can see it not working at all for communication or for legibility, and I can see it doing just fine.
