So theres a new game coming out (MMO) called Aion.

If you preorder it, you can get into the weekend beta events. I checked it out this past weekend. I have to admit, its pretty beautiful. A bit laggy but Im not sure if that was a server instability or what...seemed like there still needed some work, but otherwise it was absolutely gorgeous. Think of Guild Wars and WoW having a baby. It plays better than GW, but not quite as smooth as WoW. But its definitely gorgeous like many aspects of the other NC Soft/Korean games.

This definitely wont be drawing me away from WoW, but its pretty interesting checking it out. Will be interesting to see how it does. I hope it does well honestly. Some real competition would be nice...

the /sit command brings up your own little floating carpet to sit upon

The rest of the images are just random images of my toon around places I have been to so far, and the "flight path" type transportation you can do. I havent gotten any pics of my wings yet, as the beta ended right after I got them lol.

Actually, it takes less to run than WoW I believe, so if you can play wow, you can play that.

And as for the chars, they are HIGHLY customizable when you are creating them, and yes, both sides get wings. The "light" side gets white wings and the "fallen" side gets black wings. You can double jump to glide in non-flying areas, and then you can actually fly and fight in the flying zones, but I havent had a chance to experience those yet. I hope to check it out the next beta weekend, which I believe is July 17th.

I too got into this here AION beta.

I actually like how the quests easily point you in the direction of what needs to be killed and where they are that need killing/talking to.

Also gathering is a skill that you don't learn you just level up so you can gather plants and ore equally. I never made it to crafting because after level 10 when I got my wings I stopped playing cause the game turns into what I hate about all MMO's around level 8. It just feels like a constant grind.

So, until an MMO is built based on player skill and not just character level I can't ever see getting into one. Even when the game fixes the crap about previous games I had problems with. IE the whole ease of finding mission goals in Aion as opposed to the whole, "shit be south of some other shit" in WoW or the ever popular "Go to <blank> city." <blank> being played by a city I've never heard of. :p

So basically from what I've gathered is that a game like Crackdown, Infamous, or Prototype. Needs to be made into an MMO. Sure leveling skills is important but if you're a smart player you can accomplish a goal that should be outside your level reach.
