Seems as if Namco is using funds given to them by MS for timed exclusivity to create the "superior" (according to the article) PS3 version of Tales of Vesperia.
Apparently ... they aren't the first Japanese developer to do such a thing either...
This after Namco is already getting a lot of crap in Japan right now just b/c of the release of this game on PS3.
Many consumers are saying that they want the game to never show up b/c the bought a 360 just for this game and would not have if they would have known about the PS3 version before hand.
Interesting... Namco isn't looking very good to Japan right now... Probably not MS either.

They don't call 'em Scamco Bandai for nothing.
According to new rumors, Namco is using money it gained from a Microsoft exclusivity deal to fund PS3 development. The Xbox 360 platform holder allegedly paid Namco Bandai a princely sum to make Tales of Vesperia a timed exclusive, and now that the contract has been fulfilled, the very money MS ponied up has gone right back into giving the PS3 that very game.
The plot thickens with Sony demanding extra content for the PS3 version of the RPG, which is what the Microsoft money apparently went toward. If true, this is a severe case of ownage, with Microsoft unwittingly paying to make a PS3 version of a game significantly superior to the Xbox 360 counterpart. Pretty bloody hilarious, if you ask me, although those Japanese gamers offended by the multiplatform announcement won't find it so funny.
Of course, this is just a rumor and I'm unsure we'll ever be able to verify it. We'll certainly keep an eye on the story and let you know. I'm personally just going to believe it's true and laugh my head off.

Didn't they also do something similar with Eternal Sonata? Not as big a pull as a Tales of game but still taking the piss rather alot. |

Possibly.
There are other games that were apparently included as well... Vampire Rain was one of them.... Enchanted Arms... some others.
Not that it matters to us. Most Americans just buy the 360 version and play that, so by the time the PS3 version comes out... they either already played it... or don't give a crap anymore.
Eternal Sonata for instance. I wanted to get that with the extra content on the PS3... Yeah still haven't done that.
Too many other good games out. |

Money is money. If I pay you $5 for washing my car then you buy soap to wash someone else's car next week, am I paying you to wash their car too? Did Namco take the specific dollar bills M$ gave them and put them in a box and then use THOSE bills later to pay the programmers? M$ got their exclusivity that they paid for. After that, it's a done deal. I wish all of the companies would quit this exclusivity shit. If you want good exclusives, start making good games yourself aka Nintendo. M$ and Sony make some of the worst cookie cutter crap on the market (not referring to the companies they buy ala Bungie). Remember the 989 games?
Now you got the same crap happening at retail (Gamestop, most notably) with the presale exclusives. Most are crap anyway (gold gun, blue t-shirt, etc). Why can't companies just make good games? I would love to have someone pull off run of games like Activision & Electronic Arts did for the C64 or Tecmo for the NES. Since the release of the PS it's been more and more 3rd party dependance and less homegrown stuff. Look how Sonic has become a mockery of himself, Sony has gone thru countless games looking for a mascot, and M$ has simply thrown money around paying people off instead of even trying.
Bring me back the good old days of gaming. |

I think those days are gone.
Yeah money is definitely money.
What's funny about this is where it started was from a developer that said they basically planned it out this way... which is odd to think about at first. Make sense... but just sounds like a weird thing to say. |
