hmmm *needs a card to shop online with* oh and money, anime is so hard to get hold of in england!!! had no probs getting the original subbed version of Akira and now i aint got no money i keep seeing the new dubbed version (have the old one on VCD), even WHSmiths have it in!!!

To some of you, this might not mean anything, but you do realize that the reason those prices are so low is because you are looking at a professional bootleg video site. Almost anything with Chinese subtitles should be a dead giveaway. True Japanese/import DVDs usually don't come with any language options, and none of them have all-region DVD encoding.

Before I knew they were bootlegged videos, I purchased a couple of them myself through online auctions. On came out with excellent picture quality (but atrocious English subtitles), the other had lots of picture flaws. They can be a good deal, but you have really no guarantee of good quality.

Here's the deal. You're buying what's basically a Hong Kong dvd fansub. Because those movies aren't released in Hong Kong, small companies bring them over unliscensed, like a fansub. Difference is they charge money for them.

So from some viewpoints (because they're charging) it could be considered bootleg, but it isn't really.

Good quality, makes anime a little more affordable, and get it out before most american companies. Nuff said.

My views aren't the most popular, but they're what I feel right. Basicly, I think that importing any anime be it a bootleg or otherwise is still only importing. Fansubs are simply fansubing and unless the title has been licensed should be free to distribute, the operative word being free, I don't belive that any more that the cost of a tape or CD should be charged or any other expences. However, once a title HAS been licenesed all fan subs of that title should be destroyed UNLESS you also have the domestic version. What really erks me is when I get requests for places to download rips from domestic DVD, I don't stand for that at all.

Now for the dark secret of HK subs, most of them don't come around until either a Japanese or US sub is made. A lot of the HK subs are actually just rips of US subs, those are usually the flawless ones, not the ones that are hacked to death. But HK subs are like scratch tickets, you have no idea what you're going to get until you look.

i still say you should count yourself lucky for anything anime wise seeing as i find it almost impossible to buy any here in blighty, ive got Blood:The Last Vampire on DVD Akira, Ghost In The Shell and Angel Cop on VHS and ive borrowed Evanegelion off a friend who imported from australia (he gets quite a bit of money) aswell as Ah My Goddess! Trigun and a Z.O.E anime (not sure which one) and he dloads Final Fantasy: Unlimited and puts it on VCD for me, so basically anime is VERY hard to get in England

I've paid for 5 of them so far. All good. Good translation, good service. Those are through that company. Maybe other companies rip people off but that one is a good one. Much love for the AVGHK.

My remody to the anime expensiveness is that I just concentrate on a few series and try to get all of 'em eventually :3 My first one was Cowboy Bebop, an' I'm currently working on Lain; next up will be Hellsing. But with most of my rare money going towards music and games now, I dunno how that'll work out.
