...of the 19th and 20th centuries.

A friend of mine had this in his away message, and I thought it was pretty interesting to take a look at. I figured I would share it.
BTW, if this should be in the Soapbox, please move it as you (the Mods) see fit. |

Not a bad list...definately some not so nice books there
Mein Kampf for instance...I am not sure they all belong on the list but that's just me

I, for one, don't understand how they consider The Communist Manifesto to be the most dangerous out of them all. Although Tobs made a good point when we were discussing it in that it's almost a direct threat to our already established form of government. And of course, since everyone has this notion that Communism is this uber-evil thing for some reason or another. I still, however, don't see that book being as problematic as Mein Kampf. |

Hmmm....funny I didn't see Regin the conqueror manga on here. Hmmm...I wonder why they skipped that one? I mean it should have at least gotten Honorable mention. |

what a horrifying list of books! are any of them actually harmful? maybe, but harmful only to narrow-minded people. just because you don't agree with something, it doesn't mean it has to be a threat against you. i'd be interested in reading mein kampf as a way to get into hitler's mind, but i'm certainly not going to start some sort of agenda against jews or anybody else. there are two, however, on this list that really grate my nerves. 1) kinsey's book. 2) darwin's book. in my opinion at least, it is never ever ever acceptable to deny biology, human nature, and scientific fact. this is not about me being overly critical towards a conservative website either, because i think democrats and all other organizations are just as insane. if i continue, i'll end up entering the forbidden politics/religion zone, so i'll just leave it at that.

I think the underlying meaning is that in the hands of someone with the ideals and means to pull it off it could be a considerable threat, and don't say such a person could not exist or make it possible because if history has proven anything. It's that the person or people you least suspect can make it a very real thing. |
