Okay, I've had many, many, many scars for a few years now. But it's only now that I actually have gained a life that I want to wear clothes that are weather-appropriate.

These scars were gained back in the years when I was REALLY REALLY going through some bad times emotionally, and I used to cut myself. I don't condone this--It was my last resort.

The scars are raised and red or brown on my legs and wrists. There are also some on my stomach.

Please: I'll take any advice on how to make these go away so I can wear skirts above my ankles without stockings and maybe even....GASP! A bathing suit....

I am a liscensed paramedic and studying some medicine and have seen this before. Scars from surgery, acne, and so forth. One of the hardest parts is that if these are fairly old you will probably never totally get rid of them. However there are amazing advances in the fields of dermatology. Let me suggest a few things at least.

Dermal Massage - Some dermatologists can actually massage them fairly roughly. What it does, is cause the the scars to internally bleed. At first glance this may sound awful, but what happens is this releases helper white cells, and reparation cells that can cause some diminishing. It's even been shown to help scars as deep as internal surgical scars.

Laser Scar Removal - This of course is the most expensive and invasive manuever and of course the most trustworthy and progressive

Chemical Peels - You may be able to find a home type of chemical peel. You want to look for a creme called microdermabrasion creme. It will help you to shrink scar tissue and hopefully slough off some dead tissue

Glycolic Acid - This one I looked up for you. It's a fruit extract that roughly rubs off dead tissure from mounds like a scar or acne. Since it is natural and mildly acidic it usually doesn't cause further problems.

AVOID VITAMIN E!!!!

Vitamin E cremes have been used for ages to reduce scars but in many cases can actually bring them out more and make them appear bigger. not to mention it can cause contact dermatitis. This is a disease wherein your skin overreacts to the histamine and cause red splotchy skin and raised welts.

I hope I helped. Please if you see me online IM me and we'll talk further.

I'll add you to my list

I can't really get rid if my own scars. I have one near my left eye from when i was dropped as a child and i hit the corner of a table. (Ouch!) and i have a few on my back i got from a swimming incident with chaotic girls slashing my back, yea its not too pretty.
If excels methods don't work i wouldn't get too worried about it.
You should be proud of the fact that you were able to get past such an emotional period in your life and your scars can be a reminder of that time in your life which you have overcome. Of course Im just rambling so just ignore me Razz

Excel - Thanks so much. This ish most helpful

Wolf and Az - It's not that i'm ashamed of them or that I don't like them. In fact, i'm very proud of them. It's just that my scars have seriously angered people in the past. In fact, I lost a job once because my sleeve came up. Once I eventually get rid of them, I'll be able to run about and not have to worry about making my friends uncomfortable.

That's just plain wrong. My mind reals at the idea that people could judge you from something like that. Those must have been some bastards, for sure.
Anyway, good luck with the scars, Kat. Hell knows there are times when I'd like to get rid of mine. However, I figure that they are a testimony to my past and that getting rid of them would be like trying to hide who I was. That's my thinking anyway.

Suffocation, no breathing... Dont give a F**K if I cut my arm bleeding !!!
This is my last resoooort !!!

hehehe I had to do it. Anyhoo...

I also have or had a nasty scar cuz of a piercing. I just got surgery for it last Wednesday and it hurts like a b!tch. But what can I do ?

About the cutting yerself thingy... I dont condone any type of violence, specially on oneself. I think its very stupid to just end ones life just because something goes wrong once. Life is just a bunch of up and downs, sometimes more downs than ups, but its life and thats when you start to loose faith in the Almighty, but hey, what can you do ? Show him that you are stronger than what 'He' thinks you really are. Anyway, Kat, you know Im always here for you even if I appear not to be. Ive been there before and Ill be there again whenever ye need me.

Katty babe, you need to look up and face life with yer chin up. Dont let anyone else drag you down. It is not worth it. I know its not easy when it comes from someone so very close to you, but in the end, its yer life and you have to take care of it, noone else will. But you can always count in yer real friends who will be there giving ye support every day, every time.

I know I have been gone, but I am going through rough times myself. But Im not dead. Ask Az, he talks to me everyday. If ye need me ye just holla' and I come a-running. Im at the same place I was before.

Anyway... that's all I have to say for the moment. Back to yer normal programming.
