Ok, i got fire emblem for my new GBA, and ive found it to be quite the game.
First off, your character doesnt do really much of anything, but once you think about it, you realize that you do all the work. When you plug in ur name and gender, the game creates a character which is a tactician. That tactician is you. You never see the character except in some small scenes where there is a small cutscene on the map. Besides that, your hidden with the one of the 3 lords, making all the commands.
Speaking of main characters, the main 3 characters are Lyndis, a tribeswoman who is also had nobility in her blood, Eliwood, who is a noble who is trying to find his dad, who left very suddenly, and Hector, the younger brother of the ruler of the country. So far, the game has had a nice storyline, and the graphics (pardon my saying this, for i havent played on a GBA since this xmas) are quite amazing for a GB system. Its got lots of classes of characters, which adds to the tactics of the game.
Another thing that i find interesting is the way you acquire units. You see, some units that can BE allies can be possible enemies for a period of time. Some unique enemies or neutral characters, which you can tell when u highlight them, have the ability to be "talked" to when you approach them instead of attacking. This enables you to turn the character, who probably already has a problem with the enemy. Only problem, though, is that if you dont bring up the right character, you will be forced to attack them instead, and if you kill them, you cant get them ever in the game.
But ya. Thats all i got to report from this game. Any comments from others who played it? |

I've got it. I like it. It's similar to advance wars, of course more fantasy oriented. But, unlike Advance Wars, if your troops die you lose them permanently. Overall, it seems easier (so far) than advance wars, but you have to be more careful so you don't lose troops.
I think this game would be a bit better if it was handled more like Arc the Lad. That is, in the sense that you actually walk around towns and such while the battles play out in a tactics style. Then again, I think most tactical rpgs should be handled this way instead of the standard series of fights w/ cutscenes between them to makeup the story. Overall a good game, a definite buy for fans of the advance wars series, or fans of tactical rpgs in general. |

hee, speaking of that problem, i found a fun way around that. If you come next to a character who has a lower constitution than another character's aid value, you can "rescue" them, which takes them immediately out of battle and keeps them safe from harm. I have yet to find out what happens though if you happen to get the rescuing character to die
Speaking of tactical RPGs, could you count gladius as a tactical RPG?
That is all |

Ah, bud did you get every possible character? Did you beat the hard modes? Did you max your lords out?
The games got a lot of depth to it. And it's fun to try and it's fun to upgrade characters that you had not before. For instance, it's hard to get the Peg Knights up in level, but once you do, they are damn near impossible to kill. Guy when leveled up to a sword master is a moving quisinart. Raven can get quad hit, etc. |

Whoa, nelly. The only Lord I have right now is Lyndis. Sain and Florina are busy being injured, but all I need is Kent and Lyn and I whoop ass; the others (the latest addition being Nils, the bard) are basically decoration. |

No, you want to get Nils up to level 7 before the end of Lyndis's story. Do this for later seeing as in Hector's story it can allow you to unlock a very hard level that gives you much fun stuff to play with.
Oh, and if I would be so bold as to reccomend my favorite units-
1. The Lords Lyndis, Eliwood, Hector: Can be a little cautious to get them leveled up to 20 before upgrading them, but once upgraded each one of these guys is a one man team. Lyndis as a Blade lord gives range from bows and insanely high critical attack ratings. Eliwood as a Knight lord is a super powered Cavalier who is great for ambushes on most units. Hector as a Great lord is like a General who specializes in Axe and Sword.
2. Knights and Generals Wallace and Oswin: Tanks, that is what they are. Tanks that put a massive hurting on an opposing army. Level up Oswin to around 14 or 15, upgrade him, and watch him go to work. Wallace won't be all that good once you've gotten him, so focus on Oswin.
3. Paladins Marcus, Kent, Sain, Isadora: A fully leveled up Paladin is a swiss army knife that has a tool for any job. Marcus is unfair in the early game, and if you keep with him, very good in the late game.
4. Assassins, Jaffar, Mathew, Legault: I repeat, Jaffar is single handedly the biggest ass kicker in the game. The assassin's instant kill attack with save you more times than you will count. Give him a killing edge and let him work his black magic.
As a side note, myrmydons and their upgrade Swordmaster, at high levels, have better crit attack than almost any other unit. I get Guy usually up to a crit of 62, which means almost every hit is critial damage
5. Spell caster, Anima, Light, Dark: You will want at least one of each fully powered. Pent as a Sage, Canas as your only Druid, and Lucius as a Bishop are your ranged attack force. give them a ground pounder to support them and don't look back.
Everyone has their value, but more than anything I prefer either a highly specialized unit, or a unit with versatility. The final team I used in the last levels was:
Eliwood
Hector
Lyndis
Athos
Nils
Pent
Lucius
Canas
Hawkeye
Jaffar
Oswin
Guy
Rath
Marcus, Florina, Fiora, and Harken couldn't even make it on, but were all level 20 |

You underestimate Wil's effectiveness. As a Sniper, with two shots each doing in the area of 15 damage at the point in the game where I am... Ow. |
