Polyphany Digital...PLEASE don't believe the hype

OK, so I'm pretty much tired of hearing all of the GT4 delays, news updates, seeing screenshots, etc but then I see this on The Magic Box

- Polyphony Digital producer Kazunori Yamauchi said Gran Turismo 4 will be the team's last project for PlayStation 2, their next game will appear on PlayStation 3.

SO FRIGGIN' WHAT!! They only got one damn game, Gran Turismo! They release GT on PS, GT2 on PS and PS2, GT3 on PS2, and eventually GT4 on PS2. Four games in like six makes them some great company? OK, they threw together a tech demo and sold it as a retail product (their shooter game I can't recall right now) but that's it. Let Capcom make one franchise and I'm sure they'll be godlike too. Hell, let 3DO focus on one franchise and they could still be around. PD spends 2 years making GT4 and you'd think they were the second coming of Mel Gibson or something (you gotta think about that one).

It's not even like GT is THAT great of a game. Yes, it looked awesome back in the day but alot of games have caught up now. Yes, it has a bazillion cars but alot of games have caught up now. Yes, it has all that "realistic physics" crap (and who actually has all of these cars to tell them it doesn't handle correctly anyway?) but a few games have even caught up to that now. It's like Tiburon saying they won't be making anymore PS2 games. Um...so you guys make Madden and what? Yeah, i thought so.

The GT series is so far behind NFS and Initial D for me that I could care less when/if GT4 ever comes out. I mean, if you're not a gearhead/gearhead wannabe then what's the big deal anyway? I played GT alot but then played GT2 solely for the 2P mode. What the hell do I wanna drive an 85mph car around some damn cones for just for them to say I can drive?

I could pull ten game franchises out of my ass that beat GT with a barbed wire baseball bat. Enough already, please. Polyphany Digital, you are stretching your 15 minutes so far it's pathetic.

I love you, Razer. I've never liked GT--who the hell wants a realistic racing game?

Speed Devils, now--that was one awesome game.

Well I have to say that I like GT.

I will get the 4th one probably.

but it is pretty sad how everyone thinks they are this great company and they have one franchise.

The one thing is that it's a franchise that everyone is trying to get a part of now. And so far, all the attepts by other companies to make a similar game have been sub par.

Perfect example... Sega GT. I love Sega, I hate this game. It sux.

But yeah, I agree that PD is getting a little annoying with this.

I will buy GT4 despite that fact b/c I like the series, but make something else... I mean jeez. You are so good with the graphics and the "realism", make like a flight sim or something.

I myself hate racing games that don't allow you to customize yer cars with weapons or an ability to disable the competition. Fighting fair (Fare? gah...So tired) is SO overrated.

And I don't mean like a twisted Metal Black or Mario Kart thing. I wanna race my ass off in the first race till I have millions then trick out my ride with the best EQ available for my rank... Think of it like an Armored core only you can repeat missions for more moola and challenge racers again and again for a purse that is cut in half after the first time ya beat em.

Oh and I want trash talking based on performance and EQ..IE if you race like crap but kill everyone yer guy will be all in peoples faces tryin to intimidate them. If yer a fast lil' bastard with minimal gunage but outrun almost all weapons fired at you and/or use a lotta chaff then your guy will just be like cool and laid back and say, "Yeah, if you can catch me BIYATCH!" It'd be freakin awesome.

The game will start you with one of 4 base models..Lightweight speed demon, heavy armored edition, balanced car or armor and speed, and a car that supports mid armor but has MANY ports for wepons and has the suspension to take up the mechanical stress inherant in full auto fire from a 20MM cannon or a rotary chain fed gun of sorts.

Aye that's why Im the F-zero fan. Only hardcore racers need apply. You've got two options. A) Race your ass off like a pro or B) Kill anyone who might get in your way. The game is so incredibly hard in the upper difficulties but its SOOOOOO rewarding. In the upper difficulties I focus on killing anyone who might be a threat to me in the first half of the race and focus on racing in the second half. It's the balance between killing and racing that makes F-zero so beautiful.

I remember playing GT and thinking, wow this is a great game and thinking what kinda stuff can these guys come out with next? and looks...it's nothing! heh heh
