Check back here once in a while....I am gonna start bringing out medical alerts on drugs and diseases that may impact this country and more importantly our friends and family.
So let's begin
I needed to get this out ASAP
From the FDA
On October 15, 2004, the FDA has concluded that Cyclic and antidepressant medications increase the risk of suicidal thinking and behavior in children and adolescents with depression and other psychiatric disorders. If you have questions or concerns, discuss them with your health care provider
Please if you know anyone who takes these types of medications just keep watch. I know this is a touchy subject but as a man of medicine I wouldn't be doing my job if I let this pass without warning.
Things to look for
Excess Fatigue
Over Sleeping
Willingness to part with objects (giving things away)
Suicidal Ideation
Listlisness (Glazed over look, barely any emotion)
Some names of medications in this category
Amitriptyline, Amoxapine, Anafranil, Adapin, Aventyl, Clomipramine, Desipramine, Doxepin, Elavil, Imipramine, Janimine, Ludiomil, Norpramin, Pamelor, Pertofrane, Sinequan, Tipramine, Tofranil
Bear in mind this is somewhat rare and these problems can be helped...but very important, if you notice someone who may be taking these and having said problems/symptoms, DO NOT let them just stop taking the medications. Simply get him/her to a doctor safely.
