What is this silliness? - The Magic community should be up in arms

I am a Magic player. All of the FJ crew are as well, for the most part, although some are moreso than others. I'm sure that some of you play as well, and since PO is looking into creating their own CCG, I felt that this would be relevant. It turns out that for Magic's 10th anniversary, they have decided to do something new and unique, and change what the cards look like! I know that this is not neccesarily bad, because the game will still remain the same, but you get so used to looking at something for so long, and then they go and change it on you! I'm not mad, just a little disappointed, and saddened. For some reason, I feel like I'm losing something...

I see where your coming from too, Ming. But to tell you the truth, It doesnt look all that bad. Granted I'm not a hardcore magic player, I'm barely over amateur. And since I dont play that much, new card style wont affect me that much.

The new design does have a major effect on my eyes, but I don't play much anymore so it won't be that big a deal for me.

This is a real eyesore to me, and i think that its massively silly that they change the design after they use the original art background for so long...its like they are slightly slashing magic's rist so that it bleeds, but doesnt die!!!

Well, Tobs, I think that you're being a little over-dramatic here. The new stuff doesn't look bad...I NEVER said it looks bad. As a matter of fact, I think they did a fairly good job with the design. Everything thing looks sharp and clear, and much more colorful than before. It's just going to be weird adjusting. I mean, I've been playing for around 7 years now. It's gonna be strange to be sitting across the table from stuff like that. But I think you all know what I mean here. Change is good, we just have to get used to it first.

Weird, yes? Understandable? Yes. Better use of a card layout? Yes. Hard to stomach initially? Yes. Will that make other cards reprinted rise in price? I damn well hope so!

I can understand your feelings on this subject. After you've been playing a game for a really long time you get used to the cards, the color and shape, the pictures. I mean, after a few years of playing you get to the point where you only have to glance at a card and you know what it is, what it does, how to use it well, how to counter it, and (if you're good) what edition it's from. Changing the look of the cards is akin to being lost. You don't know where you are anymore, everything looks weird. But that doesn't mean it's bad. You just have to get used to it!

I don't have that problem anymore! Thx to Apprentice, it shows the minimum you need to know, without spoiling the fun of the game! Of course, you have no card arts, of course I'd rather play my Real life Fallen Angel all written in japanese instead of a plain black card with nothing but a text explaination on. Personnaly I prefer the old artifact color, the new one looks a lil too high-tech. But I really REALLY am amazed by the new card arts.


The magic players I know are online, my real deck is collecting dust again now that I have fully recreated it in Apprentice. So ALL OF YOU MAGIC PLAYERS THAT HAVE APPRENTICE YOU ARE MY ONLY AVAILABLE OPPONENTS OUT THERE T_T As for now, I have Ming, Lews and Azurel in my AIM "Apperentcie elite" list. I'm now once again addicted to that game even if I have forgot most of my tactics. (just started to play again for the first time in 8 years not long ago. Thx to Apperentice, and Thx to you Lews for making me discover Apprentice! )
