Everyone's excited about the release of Halo 2... yes yes, very nice, I played it and it's fun. Solid game, good for parties and just hanging out with friends. But you want a true gamer's game?
Half-Life 2.
In my opinion, it wipes the floor with halo 2... physics engine, characters, storyline, drivable vehicles. Yes, that's right, something better than the warthog.
But still... it's difficult to make the comparison. Console vs. PC shooters.... apples and oranges...
anyways, if you haven't seen it
go see it
. . .

I never got through the orginal...mostly because I can't stand that the opening movie is so damn long. So I really never even got into the actual game...but there's patience for you. As a result, I most likely won't be playing HL2.
I want to come out of the gate with guns ablazin'....

Half-Life 2 does alot better job of pacing and keeping things varied in my opinion. It's like they take a dozen different playstyles and put together in a package that really works. And it keeps a good actions pace, where HL1 had long segments of jumps/puzzles, this one tosses action at you pretty often to keep things refreshed. The action itself is different throughout the game with different styles of play that really are all alot of fun. And the physics? Wow, who thought such a simple thing like chucking a bottle at someone's head could be so incredibly entertaining.
But the best part to me would be the immersion factor. Playing as the silent Gordon, interacting with the characters, the wonderfully scripted events and amazing dialouge and it's voice acting, you actually feel as if you're really there, partaking in the action. You weren't just playing as Gordon Freeman, you WERE Gordon Freeman. Even the no name cannon fodder allies have personality. They look, act, and sound really alive and I even felt bad when they died, like someone was really lost.
What also really amazed me as how incredibly well it runs. Even on my lower end system, it still looks and plays amazingly well. I played it on medium settings and It ran flawlessly, no FPS drops or slowdowns. The only complaint I could have with it would be the incredibly long loadtimes between maps. While not terribly often, Map loads can take about a minute on a lower end system.
All in all, I was worried that it wouldn't live up to the hype; But, it completely blew me away. I just can't wait for the mod scene to put out some material. This game will definately last for years to come. |

i got some of the way into Half-life, and i found it good. I've only heard good things about Half-life 2, and what with me being a more avid PC shooter than a Console Shooter, i would say that i may be putting more points into HL-2, but i find Halo 2 to be pretty damn good too...im just gonna wait for it to come out on PC, like Halo
