Phantom Brave

As some of you know, Disgaia and Lapucille Tactics are the what's what in the PS2 Realm of Strategy. Well, chalk another one up there, cuz they've done it again. Phantom Brave is a great game with a brand new battle system that does something that sounds risky, but pulls through: No grid. That's right, PB doesn't use grids at all. In it's place lies a circular diameter that your character can go anywhere in, and each small attack has a diameter as well. The weapon system and "summoning" system is a blast too. WHile in the other two games, you brought your characters out of a panel during a battle, in PB you summon "phantoms" into the physical world thorugh "possession" (for a lack of a better word) What I mean is, say you want to summon the main character (Ash), you would go to your Chroma's "Confine" ability, which opens up a huge diameter, and you select an object (tree, rock, fruit) and choose to "Confine" it. this transforms the item into your phantom, and he gains traits depending on what item you confined him into. For instance, if you use the rock, his speed will suffer, but his efense will be great. However, you can only confine each person for a certain number of turns, then they return to their phantom form and you can't summon them again for the battle, so it's adds a new element.
Also, when they dissapear, they have a chance of taking the item they were confined to with them, and it can then be equipped on them in a later battle. yes, you can pick up anything from trees to dead bodies and use them as weapons (and each one has their own attacks)

While I'm not as addicted to PB as I am Star Ocean, it definitely serves as a break from SO. i give it an 8.5 out of 10

I'm still stuck on Disgaea, otherwise I'd probably pick this one up.

Stuck as in leveling up so I can beat it. I'm only on Episode 10 and I've had it since January, but then again my file got corrupted somehow so I had to restart all over. Anyways, to stay on topic, Phantom Brave does seem like a really neat game and is the "sequel" to Disgaea, where as La Pucelle was the prequel to Disgaea. Also, Terin discussed the gameplay of Phantom Brave, I'll discuss the story.

In the year of 921, in a world called Ivoire,
lives Marona, a 13 year old orphaned girl
with a special ability to communicate with phantoms.
Her ability brings resentment from others,
but cheerful and optimistic Marona is not bothered.
Marona believes in her parents' teachings that
people will one day come to like her
as long as she stays compassionate and kind.
Now Marona travels throughout Ivoire with her guardian,
Ash the Phantom,
to resolve disputes around the world.

I have Pucelle and Phantom but I can't find Disgaea anyway here and I think that's kinda like the "1st" one, right? Is it worth it to start Pucelle or PHantom without playing Disgaea? Lemme know!!!

The games dont share a story, only thier style. You can play them episodically.

I picked it up, but due to WoW stress test beta and Silent Hill 4, I have to put this one on the side for a bit. But it looks amazing.

It's definitely leaps and bounds in many ways. For one thing it has a whopping 20 chapters. Some shorter, and longer than usual. But all you strategy heads owe it to pick this up before it becomes a cult following only. Plus like Disgaea it has a wonderful bag of cameos. Woot

Woo, i know its late for this game but i just got it cause i saw and thought "hey that reminds me of Disgaea". i recommend it, and even tho i just played breathe taking games, SB: till the end of time, and WoW, i was still able to enjoy this truely new system. talk about level 150 chars!
