I am very suprised that the mall was actually busy.

Honestly, people, don't you have anything better to do?
How about sleep? Enjoy time with family? Take advantage of the good weather?
Nooo, they go into a shopping mall and spend money!

At least I was paid to be there, they were paying to get there!
At this rate the mall WILL wanna open next new year as well. What's next? Open on Christmas day?
Maybe 24 hours a day? 7 days a week?
Oh, the thrill of able to wake up at 3am and buy a pair of boots! OMG!

*censorz0rz* -_-

Uhhhh technically a lot of people got New Years Eve off cause it was on a weekend. So it's the same 3 day weekend we get regardless, and it's not good for business to be closed 3 days in a row or junk like that. So it's really not that big a deal XD

Im with ya, only days I get off every year are Thanksgiving and Christmas, and hurricanes if they hit again, but since we had 4 in one year, hopefully we're done with hurricanes for about another 10+ years lol

might I add malls are an open makretplace. I mean the fluctuation of open trade is an open decision. It opens because it knows the people will be there thus it is more of a social pheoniminon than just the single malls desire. Blame not the malls, blame the people who decide to show XD

...

I say open a lot

Oh I beg to differ, open alot means we don't get to do the things we want to do, and it makes the managers greedy as hell, I can honestly tell you that my manager hates people except on christmas, which means he holds us back from our families. Is tat what you want a greedy community?

The summit theater is open all year long, we never close, rain or shine, sleet or snow, during the last heavy snow fall we were still opened because people were like "Oh we'll have popcorn for dinner."
we had to use calculators during the huricane.

NO TO STAING OPEN ALOT!

hey...i know the feeling. I had to work Christmas Eve...when i was given the day off, becaues one of my collegues called out because she was sick, and they needed a high-experienced worker in the cafe. But you know waht, they were closed Christmas day and they closed early new years eve...whcih was nice (even though i didnt work)

Also, for a mall, the busiest times of the year would be those holiday times...such as christmas eve and new years day. Another would be thanksgiving weekend, which is also tough.

And yes...ive known the experience of "Why teh hell are you here! ITS A HOLIDAY!" I remember on easter sunday, i had to open with a friend of mine, and we actually saw people waiting outside of barnes and nobles for the store to open. We all just found it sad...very very sad.

But eh...thats what happens when you live in a community where the spirit has been sucked dry. But you know what? At least im getting paid. And at least i do my job well, and my managers are nice people. Its not that they are greedy. If you ever look at a managers job, they have a lot to do. I remember asking my manager about what he has to do for the cafe job.

Not only does he have to take inventory, but he also does the ordering, has to know how to make everything, has to know how to deal with customers, has to be ready the day before iwth the new fixtures, has to have the new product up and out on the day it has to be out, has to make sure everything arrives on time (and if not, he has to yell at US foods for not getting food to us on time), and lastly, he has to make sure that we make plan for the year. Sometimes, its not that the manager is getting greedy, but the fact that the corporate headquarters sets a plan ahead of time that the stores must strive to meet...which is why they are constantly appearing to be money-grubbing. Its not their fault...its the corporation. I know my manager does his damndest to reach plan, becaues it only benefits everyone in the store when he does.

Now in the case of your manager, they seem like they just suck in general, and that they dont do much...but at the same time, they are probably getting hit with many a pressure from the company for not doing what they are supposed to

ok...i think im done now *lets off some steam*

I work at Publix and I'll be damned if that placed anything short of an evac making it close. We close 3 days a year Christmas, Thanks Giving and Easter and stay open through conditions that would even shut the postal system down :p

I'm gonna have to go with a half and half opinion here. Malls stay open those time because as we all know, people (consumers) will do anything to buy the latest greatest thing. In an ideal world it wouldn't be that way

When you work in a place like that you're there for a service. And honestly it is exactly like working at a Fire Department...just a different job. I hated working X-Mas or New Years. But I chose the job and took the responsibility that went with it. So here is the other half of my opinion. The mall stays open because that is their right to do so. So if people don't want to shop on X-mas, then don't do it! And I know this next part from experience...if you don't want to work there on XMas...don't work there! If they hassle you that much, tell them you have idealogical problems with it. If it doesn't work, quit and find something else.

No but seriously, If you have a job you should commit to it. It was your decision to spend time away from family/fun to earn moolah. Nobody likes to work on the holidays but someone has to do it.

Im with you ultra...it was YOUR choice to work...but someone has to do it...and its a good thing that you are so unselfish as to work for someone else...it means you will get all the kindness back one of these days. I know how it is to work on Christmas and New Years...not spend time with family..but again...someone has to do it...and if you are so kind enough as to take the risk, you will be repayed for that kindness..so I wouldnt complain,..It just means something better is on the way.
