Is it just me?

Or is there a serious lack of solid RPGs on today's consoles? Let's have a look:

PS2: FFX? ok, sorry to say, but the game scored a humble 8/10. too linear.

GC: Windwaker? Pretty good, but way too short.

XBOX: Fable? Morrowind? I don't own an XBOX, but I've heard Fable was too short, and regardless of which "path" you take the quests are the same, and Morrowind was ok, but the PC version was better.

What's going on? Am I the only one who is still waiting for a "next-gen RPG" that satisfies as much as FF7, FF9, Lunar, Thousand Arms, Suikoden, and countless others that helped raise PSOne to it's legend status? The ONLY game that came close to doing that was possibly Kingdom Hearts, and that's strictly due to the story. God knows that the Gummy Ship was the biggest waste of time on that game... It's like all the good RPG's went to GBA, and there's even been a dry spell on those lately. Since KH, I feel like I've been playing filler for the past 2 years. Am I alone?

Tales of Symphonia for GC. I'm playing it right now and it's pretty good so far. Plus it boasts loads of play time with side quests and the like.

Disgaea on PS2 has me hooked, they are out there, the limelights just not on them as much as with the PSOne

Well...you do have some titles in the future...namely FFXII (PS2), Lunar Dragon Song (DS), Lost Oddesy (360), and Blue Dragon (360). (although the 360 ones won't be out for a while)

Although you really should try Atalier Iris (PS2), Makai Kingdom (PS2), Jade Empire (XBox), Star Wars KOTOR I and II (XBox), and Shadow Hearts 2 (PS2). Those might satisfy you.

Grandia 2 was great but technically that's a dreamcast game for PS2.
Grandia 3 looks promising.
Lots of RPGs for GBA.
<3 Mario and Luigi but I always loved the offbeat RPGs.
Seriously though Terin, I'd highly Reccomend Grandia 2, you could probably get it used for cheap. Probably one of my favorite RPGs of all time.

yeah i realized this as i have begun replaying legend of dragoon, one of the most bad ass PSX rpg's ever, the combat system is so slick, bad ass story, good side quests. . .haven't hade this feeling on any of the PS2 rpg's

One problem with some of the posts here :-p I love NIS, Disgaea, no one has mentioned La Pucelle which is even better in my opinion, Phantom Brave, and Atelier Iris, all are great, but technically are not RPGs.

Fable and Morrowind I agree with, and even Morrowind, while graphically superior, is not as good as Daggerfall was originally.

As I have found, I actually use my PS2 to play more PS1 games than anything else, and mostly RPGs.

You say their technically not RPG's?

yet their "genre" is normally classified as SRPG, Strategy Role Playing Game. As the battle system is similar to that seen in most RPG's just on a grip, and wasn't Shining Force on the saturn in a similar vein battle wise?
