I have a job. not the most crapy job in the world, but i dont love it. i could be working at much worse places at 17, so i guess in the whole scheem of things, its not to bad. I was a popcorn pusher at Carmike (Carmike Cenemas corprate office is the Devil by the way) officialy tittled Concessionist. About 3 weeks ago, i was promoted to Supervisor of concessions, my job got better in my opinion. more responsibility, but more freedom, and the ability to tell people what to do. not to mention the spiffy gold nametag. At carmike, any concessionist, regardless of rank must upsell and suggestive sell. If a "Secret Shopper" dosent get one or both, it means termination... regardless of who it is. If the complex manager dosent upsell to a secret shoper, BAM gone, no questions asked... but anyway, 'nuff background. So im working a register, which normaly i only do when we are understaffed, and a lady comes up. And i greet her with the standard "Hi welcome to carmike" and ask her if she would like a combo, try to upsell her, and ask if she wants candy. I'm trying to be polite and nice and get her to her movie. This whole speal and my ability to sell stuff, and probably the fact that i am a supervisor, as aposed to a regular concesstionist, sparks her intrest. So she says to me. Hi i work at Brookstone at the galleria and im wondering if you would be intrested in being an assistant manager, it would be a full time job. At this point im thinking "Ho-ly shit". I mean, since febuary, i have had the occational person say, hey you should sell this, you would be a good furniture sales man, hey your a good sales man and such, but i have never gotten a serious job offer. if i werent in school, i would have jumped on that without hesitation, but i realy cant be a full time student and assistant manager at the same time. more than anything i was supprised, and it kinda made me feel good. just though i would let everyone know.
Edit: dont know why i typed Bromberg's, its brookstone |

Rock on, man!
And even though you are a student you should at least look into it.
She seemed impressed enough to maybe be able to work with you on the schedule. Can't hurt to check.

Check on it, certainly. If you think you'd like that job better and they'd be willing to let you be a part-time guy, I think it's worth looking into. |

aye. Getting into management very VERY early on is a very prominent thing to have on a resumé. Like pretty much, im almost 19, and I'm pretty much acting Café manager at Barnes and Nobles...not to mention a B+N that is very productive. If you can manage getting part time, then its definitey worth it, since it'll not only show that you were able to hold a management position, but you are able to manage that and schooling. Now, if you have good grades, thats very nice. |
