Okay, before I continue with this review, I would like to say that this game is NOT for everyone. Max got bored and hated it within 15 minutes. I love it to death and have spent many hours with it over the past two days. Here, let me explain.
Graffiti Kingdom has a horrible storyline, even worse voice-acting and the cut scenes will make you want to kill yourself; so why do I like this game so much?
The concept. You create, draw and 3D render creatures to add to your party in an action-adventure RPG (the gameplay is sort of Kingdom Hearts meets Spyro). As the game progresses and you level up, more functions are added to what you can make your creatures do, you get new pens and drawing functions, and naturally you get an understanding of how to make a fast creature, a hard-hitter, a runner, a floater, a flyer, et cetera. You can also give your creatures personality by setting the way they walk, the sounds they make, and the types of attacks they can use (although not all attacks are available to all creatures).
Your party consists of yourself (a bratty little prince named Pixel), an annoying little cat-thing that follows you around, instructing you and guiding you through the game, and up to six creatures that you make yourself (you start off with a free creature that the game gives you, Rainbow Bear; you can also delete creatures, make new ones, edit old ones, etc). You can only use three creatures at a time though (in the menu, you set them to the directional pad; down is how you change back to Pixel, and the other three directions is how you change into one of your creatures). You can also "steal" the form of an enemy, but only for a short period of time.
So, basically, if you love drawing, or making things, or coming up with concepts for creature design, then it's easy to ignore the whiney little prince and condescending cat creature, the agonizing cut scenes, and the retarded bosses. Because right now, I can't wait to level and see what I can make next =) |

I found the game dissapointing. The drawing left a lot to be desired, nothing I drew came out right! |

From what I understand, it's the 'sequal' to Magic Pengel
Protoman730--have you tried setting the pen to a slower speed so that it doesn't move so fast across the screen? You do so by holding down R1. |

That's the inherant flaw with any game where the player creates something. The user simply does not have the skill to make anything he/she likes and then drops the fault on the game. Proto, I'm not attacking you here and I respect your feelings towards the game in terms of liking or disliking it. But you can't in all fairness blame the game or lower it's rating because your art didn't appela to you. I was disappointed in Magic Pengel too at first, but hours into it when I was able to use more parts, more colors, and learned how to overcome my own bad drawing, I began to like it. The same art available to the user is on the box cover. If the art doesn't appeal to you then you should just skip the game.
I also advocate renting any game before purchase. It saves you a lot of money on stuff you won't end up liking. |

I have it on rent right now, and I do plan on buying it =)
About the art--some basic level of understanding of human/animal anatomy helps, but "drawing skills" don't really come into play. I'm a halfway decent artist, and it took me a while to get used to the controls, too =) You just have to spend a little time with it, and then you'll come to terms with it a bit more. |
