AIM's Little Warning

Recently, a friend of mine sent me this statement from the supposed AOL president, Mark Jenkins. For those who are to lazy to read it, the gist of it is that AOL has gone over their budget for the free AIM service and will kick off the non-active users and charge a small fee once the new year starts. My question is if any of you know if this true or simple fiction.

Dear AIM users,
Because of our overloading of our servers, we are being forced to extract our non-active AIM users. Because this is a free service, AOL has exceeded the budget for the AIM service. We are asking that you send this exact message to 20 other AIM users to ensure us that you're an active AIM user. Our system tracking devise will pick up this message to keep you on our active list. You have 72 hours to complete this task or your service will be cancelled immediately. Starting January 1st, 2005, we will be charging a small fee for registering of a screen name for AIM. Thank you for your time and for using AOL or AIM.

Good thing I'm always on AIM. As a sidenote, I think it's fake.

It is, someones trying get attention, and perhaps some money pay no attention to it and don't reply to it.

If I were you, report it to the aol staff.

It's total trash...you can tell by the way that it's written. I HIGHLY doubt that AOL would rely on users sending the message to 20 of their friends, or else their service will be cancelled. I'm sure that if AOL wants to get into contact with all it's AIM users, it has better ways of accomplishing that. Also...wasn't the founder of AOL Steve Case?

heres the thing, i wanna know where these started i have like 50 sns and not one of my email addys corresponding to ANY sns have been hit by that..

Actually, anything that has to do with a database cleaup is completely fake. There is no way to lose your account anywhere, unless it's specified explicitly when you sign up (I.E.: Hotmail warns you right off the bat that your account will be disabled if you don't sign in for 30 days)
