Here's a little project I am working on. Just to pass the time so I am kinda piecing it together bit by bit. Hope people like it, and don't be afraid to give criticisms. It can only help me do better if necessary of course. Don't worry, this is just meant to set the tone of the story. Enjoy.
Desolation:The Hearts Thirst
The Adventures of Roc Jacobs and Kanzaki Hayate
Part I of the Duskrealm Trilogy
Prolouge
Like any story it starts in a time that may never be reached. On a planet that may never be reached by any normal person. It was named Gaia Earth by the people that had come to colonize it. For it was their new hope and salvation from a world that had all but changed for them. They thought that a second chance had been given and that the spirit of the planet had welcomed them with open arms. It was in this that the call of spirituality had returned to the once earthlings. Like any new civilization it had started out simple enough.
Of the two thousand people to arrive on Gaia Earth, they were each divided to discovered areas to create a stable society. Nine hundred had stayed at the landing site and formed their village around the spacecraft that had carried them. Three hundred has found success within the forest and had crafted a town within the treetops, which made good use of the food and safety provided. Four hundred and fifty of the colonists ventured past the plains and the mountains, some had died making the journey though it was not in vain as they had found a vast coastline that stretched far beyond the sight of the people. The last three hundred and fifty people took by far the most dangerous trek as they were following the call of what many thought to be the voice of Gaia.
From society would come religon and it was those leaders that felt the need to go farther. They had traveled for almost two years before they had arrived at the foot of a vast mountain. It's snow capped peaks and rocky edges were by the eyes of many, a true testiment to the beauty and spirit of the planet. The mountain was named Gaias' Heart, for all the joy and faith that had grown in the people. Indeed while some had lost their lives in the pursuit of survival, as a whole the colonists had been able to cultivate the land and flourish from it's bounty.
Now that the people had found a stable home, they began to connect with each other. Building roads and trade routes so that all could benefit from each other, though through this they would learn the next harsh reality. That there is always someone other than you in the world. This was evident in the appearence of what would be called the Ferals. A race of humanoids that also posessed the traits of both familiar and unfamiliar animals. Like the colonists they were a highly spiritual and tribal race. It was discovered that many tribes of ferals had established a territory and that the humans were "invading" them. They had approached these new strange beings called humans, and it was met with curiosity yet also a little hostility as well. Communication between them proved difficult as their languages were nearly too different to create a common dialouge.
Though despite the conflict that was slowly growing between the races, a bond has been reached when a Feral shaman and a Human priestess had met in the open plains, and it was there the knew that they had something in common. Both knew in their hearts that they had a profound love and appreciation for the planet. It would not be words that forged a link between the races, but the unspoken connection with human, feral, and planet.
Thus an all out war had been avoided and for a time both of the races had at the very least, learned to tolerate the presence of each other. In time things had begun to improve, as both feral and human began to interact with each other. Learning from one another had proved most beneficial, as they soon began to understand both their language and their culture. Knowledge of the world and also the other beings that inhabited it were also shared with the humans.
Many years later the growth of the human race on Gaia had been on the rise, as the economy and trade had been at an all time high. Newer technologies were developed as well as building designs. Civilization had once again been reborn. Keeping in mind the bounty of the planet. The people had no desire to see Gaia Earth ruined, so a comitte was established to enforce rules and regulations that would ensure the planets safety. Consisting of both Feral and Human members, they would ensure that no permanent or severe harm would come to Gaia Earth. At least in concept it had been a good idea, for it brought what everyone hoped for. A secure peace for each race and people. Though the price of this would be the call of The Kin.
It had been an idea of the priests to call upon the planet to provide a force to help the people preserve Gaia. The plans had been made and the ceremony was underway. It had been asked upon by the very same shaman and priestess that had been able to make the progress thus far. The two had focused all their energy, all their will to find the heart of Gaia Earth, to ask her for help. They had gotten their responce......Death. The Kin had appeared and slaughtered everyone at the ceremony. Their features were beyond life or nature. Their bodies were mishapen and gangly. Their bones visible within their skin, eyes that pierced into the soul of any it gazed, horns and other protrusions that littered almost all of their form. There was a grave feeling for the humans when it had reached them that their hope to preserve Gaia had been torn to shreds by these demons.
It had not been the last of the Kin though. With their entrance now complete they appeared in hordes. Though while many thought they would immediately start to attack the villages and cities. They were surprised to see all Kin enter the ocean, as if called by some unseen force. Every last Kin dissapeared into the sea. Where many thought they had walked to their deaths. So of course many were brought into a false sense of security. Though if it were that easy, it would not be much of a story now would it? |

An interesting start. Although Gaia Earth's spirit, if it is responsible for the Kin, is a b***h. |

I liked it a lot. My only problem is with the kin themselves. If they came from gaia, which is supposed to be a good guy/gal/supreme entity, then why is it sending demons to kill people. oh well, I guess it will all be answered in the next chapter of......shuts self up |
