So Tobs and I have a PS2 and an Xbox. Both crapped out at basically the same time, although the PS2 was ultimately gradual, whereas the Xbox crapped out literally over night.

So basically, in light of supposed newer consoles coming out, is it worth getting these things repaired? Do I have any other options?

PS3 -is- backwards compatible. Probably have to wait till next year for that. Dunno on the status of XBOX360 being Backwards Compatible. I think that comes out later this year. The new slim PS2s are pretty nice, friend of mine traded in his old PS2 for one and it's pretty nice.

The thing with PS2 is that they'll repair it for $75, or trade it in for a factory refurbished one for $45. And to me, factory refurbishd is pretty much new. I would get the new slim one, but then I'd have to spend like 3x as much as if I were to just trade mine in....especially after I just had to replace 2 tires on my car for being stupid.

Xbox, on the other hand, is like $75 to fix, end of story. Although, there is a store around here that'll fix it for $79, but they give you a one or two year guarantee.

I would fix them.

You don't know what is going to be released with the 360. It could be all crap. And the system will be 300-400 bucks when it comes out

Just my thought.

Depends how much you use em -- do you play them often enough to warrant shelling out $45\$75 to get them fixed? If so, go for it. If not, then forget it. Shino is absolutely right about the new systems, though; the only system I'd ever buy as soon as it came out would be a Nintendo system, and that's only because they have a twenty-plus year track record of making amazing games. Unless there's a specific game that you just absolutely cannot wait for that's coming as an opening release, just wait a month or so and save yourself a hundred bucks.

I think I'm going to go ahead and fix them and/or replace the PS2. I wasn't playing them a lot...Tobs was, but that's because I was still dealing with school. Now that that's over, I can actually take the time to play video games again. I personally don't want to shell out $300-$400 for new systems, plus, I have so many games for PS2, and a growing library for Xbox. It would be a shame to never be able to play those again because I don't plan on picking up any of the newer systems anytime in the near future...and that's provided they're backward compatible.

Thankfully, good old Gamecube is still working. But it doesn't surprise me. As Bryan mentioned, they have a great track record for games, but I think they also have a great track record for system quality. I guarantee that I could fire up my old NES, and it would still work. Same goes for SNES and N64. It's just a shame that other companies can't take the same pride in construction and overall quality that Nintendo does.

Well I agree with the SNES and the N64.

The Gamecube is rock solid.

Now the original NES.
Poor design.

Unless you got the top loading one. Then you are golden.

I find it hilarious that to properly emulate the NES you have to actually code in the bugs that were in the system, since so many NES games made use of said bugs.

lol

you know, looking at the cost of a new system, i think we should just go for the reparations, since it'll merit like, 150-200 bucks for two refurbished systems, whilst we could pay 300 bucks for a new system, multiply that by two of them, bringing us up to a grand total of like, 600 bucks...which i dont really feel like spending on videogames. I like videogames, but at the same time i like my money that i've been saving, and i dont wanna waste a nice chunk of it on new consoles that'll just be replaced again. So i might as well fix the systems and that'll be that.

That is all.
