Angel Demon

nani? ???

Ming and I have gone over this many a time, and it all boils down to companies want to make sure that they hit the people with acess to money who will likely get what they want. In our culture, that's the rich littel kids who have parents too busy to raise them right so they attempt to buy their children's love by dropping $1800 on pokemon cards and such.

The fact that it's started with LoTR's hurts, but I can also name video games in that category as well. Remember when before the creation of the playstation, how playing video games was seen as "dorky?" Now, I walk into the Beta Theta Pi football frat here on campus, and you are guarenteed to see jocks who used to beat up said dorks blowing things up on Halo. I ask you...Where is the justice in this world?

Liv Tyler is in fact very hot. especially as Arwen. my ideal woman has elf ears. soooooo seksi.

i don't really think they cast Elijah Wood and Orlando Bloom because Jackson thought "think of all the teeny-bopper girls we'll be able to reach if we have hotties for stars." that intention is the important thing. if those shallow teeny-boppers come see the movie, well good for them, they're actually getting some culture from Hollywood.
and if Seventeen magazine wants to sell a few extra issues by including the "hottie" stars of LotR on the cover - well, how is that different from putting any other attactive male celebrity on the cover?

does the fact that you sat in a theater with some shallow 15-year-olds somehow cheapen your experience of LotR?
if you think so, you're being ridiculously elitist. and by that logic, and you no more 'deserve' to open an issue of Seventeen magazine than they 'deserve' to see LotR.

and finally, the basic fact is that Orlando Bloom is pretty damn unattractive in real life - he has black spiky hair, lots of piercings, and a much less refined accent - your quintessential Anarchist Brit. but as Legolas, man oh man...if i looked like him, there would be a line of girls outside my dorm room a mile long. gotta give props for looks like that.

I don't care what you say Az... Liv Tyler is SOOOO a hottie!

I would totally have a litter of that dog's babies!

But I can understand the whole thing about her not being like she was in the book. I felt the same way about Natalie Portman in Where the Heart Is... And she is also still very much a hottie! Wink

Agreed

But she has nothing on ... Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallisooooooooooooon

Allison Hannigan.... yummy... and she just got engaged. Pout

Sorry Chibs... looks like neither of us will get a shot of that any time soon. Wink

I'd agree with Ming on this one too. But I don't think he took it far ENOUGH. I think that this theory could be extended to many MANY things besides just kids' merchandize and such. The same thing happens with adults. True, there are lots of adults out there that don't fall for that kind of thing, but I have TWO examples (I'm sure there's more) of how adults can fall for fads just as bad as kids:
1. Cell Phones
2. SUVs
It happens with many many things, and it will inevitably cheapen the intristic value of whatever the fad is. It makes me sad because there are lots of things that start out really great and get completely corrupted by fads. LOTR is just one example.
