Well, this weekend I decided to finally network my computers together in order to maximize my video-gamage with selected friends (Er friend) and we figured that running the LAN line through the attic would be super keen. So we get our drill bit and a ladder flashlight and what-not together and I ascend into the attic while Jester shines a light into the hole in order to mark me drillin spot.
Well, my attic isn't a high trafic zone and AZ is EXTREMELY dusty so there was a good 3-4 inches of dust on the floor of the attic. Thus ALL the beams were covered and thusly invisible. I wasn't doing too bad until I needed to go under a cross beam to get over my comp and the afore mentioned drill hole. So I figure Crossbeams are anchored to struts and thus directly under a cross beam is in fact a strut... I seemed to have forgotten that my house is not in fact a 30 foot high steel structure. Even though I tested the area for structural weakness and/or strutness when I put my foot down it went THROUGH the ceiling! Fortunately my cat like reflexes were good enough to make my arms shoot out and grab some beamage. I stopped myself from falling into my parents toilet and now my shoulders hurt.
Anywho, there's a hole now in me parents bathroom which is no biggie cause my dad's a carpenter so he said he can fix it easy enough.
But what I'm pissed off about is the fact that for some ungodly reason houses aren't built with attic WALKWAYS! For the love of BOB! It wasn't that finding a stepping beam was TOO hard but EVERY steppin beam has a crossbeam above it so it's hard for a 6 foot tall guy to place his foot on respective beam AND hunch over 3 feet! (Later a Home Depot guy told me to lay a piece of borad between the two beams and you get a cool walkway.... At that point I remembered my days of building houses with my dad and went to the nail-gun aisle to looks for an 8 inch nail gun to aim for my head...They weren't in stock)
Anywho, just kinda urked me that I'm a moron mostly. But long story short I now have a flourecent orange wire running through my house transfering about 100 MBS. But when I say through I mean like on the wall of the living room! hehehe |

I felt it exsentuates the flow of the living room and gives it that extra homely lived in feeling while still keeping it's Jene-se-qua. |

hmmm, you can do what I tried with one of my friend: Get wireless LAN connection! Sure it's not doing any 100 MBS, but 26 MBS is not that bad don't you think? Ok, so our attempt failed ... but we live like, 200 feet away form each other, and there are 3 houses that totally screw up the signal (every 1 foot thick wall makes you lose 90 feet of range ... so guess how much you lose for 3 houses.) But it's perfect for connecting 2 PCs together in the same house! It worked perfectly that way.
O and the thing must be around, 70 US$, but if I were you, I'd wait till the technology somewhat ... evolves. Now it's pretty sucky, there are a shit load of points to configure in order to catch the channel and you must find one with very lil interferences ... well, it presently sucks but I'm sure it'll be much better! ... in a year or 2. |

I was actually looking for a wireless hub thingy but I couldn't find one for some reason. All I found were routers and wierdness. But the set-up works quite well the way it is. Granted the wire I bought was only Comp to Comp so I can't add another comp...Well maybe I could but I'd need one of the router things and they cost like $150 (Cheap one that is). But we just use it for multi-play Arcanum and Starcraft anyway....Ohhhh, maybe we should play Tachyon too...Yum! |

I also hate it when u step down and find yourself plunging threw a hole from the weakness of a structure.
The only thing was that it didnt happen in my attic, though, it happened while hiking, where i happened to step on a frosen part of a puddle, and fall through...and there was also the time i stepped on a "rock", and it also dissappeared from underneath me, and i was finding myself about to sink my leg into a very big and jagged hole
Come to think of it, i do that alot when i go hiking (approxamatly once a hike ) |

apple 0wz0rs in the wireless department, what with every comp coming Airport-equipped (Airport = their wireless technology). the wintel market is just catching on and starting to provide wireless support...compatible with the standards apple set, of course. anyway, it's the best thing that ever happened to my house; now whenever i go home my computer senses that i'm no longer tethered to my school's ethernet, then also senses the Airport network pervading the space around my house, and automatically swtiches the necessary prefs. isn't technology wonderful?

~bows before what is an almighty wireless D-Trix~
I just have wires jutting out everywhere. It's like some crazy tentacled beast I tells ya!
My dad almost fell through the ceiling.
I think it was his uncontrollable urge to cover himself in that insulation and pretend to be the pink panther. |

I fell through the ceiling once. I was in the actic looking for a leak in the roof when I lost my balance. Went flying down... and through. Luckily the leak was in the living room and I fell through right above the sofa. What a ride! But I had to fix it, too.
