Holy Poop this is an awsome game! I love it, it takes on the best elements of the first 2 games and adds a double screened twist of DOOM.
The info screen on the top is nice, the using of the stylus and never having to actually hold this DS is nice as well. Dual front battles, whoa those are fun. Main battle is waged on the touch screen while the 2nd front, either far away or 30,000 feet up. the 2nd front can either be AI controlled (default) or human controlled sometimes. The 2nd front works a lot like normal predeployed maps with one exception, you can send units to it from the main front. Once you've decimated the 2nd front your CO from there comes to the main front for normal tag match action.
Speaking of Tag battles, both COs you have have independant CO Power bars, when both are filled to SCO Power level you can let loose the Tag option. You get to use the 1st COs super power and attack with all your units, and when you finnish you get to use the 2nd COs super power and get to attack for a devistating 1 2 punch.
New units, COs, and music, all good stuff. Adds to the game and doesnt take away from it.
I very very highly recommend this to anyone who likes stratigy games. And makes the DS a worth purchase for this title alone IMO. |

Agreed, this is probably the best game on the DS right now. I'm saying that and I haven't even seen some of the stuff Mage is talking about.
I just got to the part where you can do Tag Team Battles. (Mission 9)
It's slow running for me, but I try to run at least one battle a night. Doesn't happen a lot, but it's a goal.
The battles are pretty quick too. Everything happens very fast and is not drawn out. So there is actually action going on and it doesn't feel like it drags out like most turn based (non-rpg) strat games.
Definatly suggest this to anyone.
As a side note... Gamespot has posted a guide...

I'm an Advance Wars Junkie, I take it everywhere, play it between classes, whenever im free. I still play the first game. It's very very user friendly which is nice. Another bonus, if you have Advance Wars 1 or 2 in the cartridge slot you can unlock some maps and wallpaper.
So far I've noticed the requirements to get Higher rankings on missions have been slacked down alot or maybe Advance Wars 1 was just incredibly hard, but it seems much much much easier to get S-ranks in this game.
I really like that COs can level up and gain abilities now. Adds a whole nother layer of strategy into the game. That's whats great about Advance Wars, it can be simple or complex. |
