its a good concept, but u gotta realize that some of the money that we do get back from the removal of paychecks goes into the much more heightened tax on necessities. So anyway u look at it, ur still gonna be giving up some of ur paycheck to the government, its just that u may not pay as much...it all depends on how much u buy
that is all |

True, but think, if you freelance, you get to keep all the money you get. Granted you would have to pay escalated taxes on goods but it comes out far less than what is deducted and even what we don't get back from the gov.
I may be quoting something wrong but wasn't taxing pay only done for wartime when the extra funding was detrimental? Considering we are only now looking at war again what about all the years of peace we went through being taxed? |

Taxes based on production are a long held instituion originating from Midevil time when Serfs had to pay tribute to the rich land owners based on how much food they harvested and a king collected taxes from all of the rich land owners based on how much food they had been given by the serfs. The idea of taxing pay came about in the Industrial Revolution when European nations started developing monied economies (as opposed to barter economies, you know: "I'll give you my chicken for your pig.") The original 13 colonies had to pay the King a tribute based on their earnings being that it was a colony. When they gained independence they just started paying the government instead (the rich, of course, getting massive tax breaks).
So... that's pretty much it.
It also seems that the whole idea of Fairtax is lacking in ideas of WHERE the money that the government uses comes from. Besides the fact that in order to make the whole thing work you'd have to have unified markets which would totally get rid of the whole "No monopolies" thing that we tote so much. A good idea in theory, but very unsound in practicality. That's my take on it.
Back to you, Bob!
