Sheesh.......I saw Advent Children at AWA and thought it was so kick A$$ that now I want to play all the Final Fantasy games! Right now I'm playing VII but the problem is that I don't know the chronology of the games. I know that most of them don't relate but if anyone has any idea if there is a plot timeline to the games it would be most appreciated. (P.S. I drove around all day today trying to find VII! It was really hard!) |

Timeline? No such beast (other than X and X-2). Play in any order you wish! Have fun! And try not to think too hard about the FF9/DragonBall/Journey to the West plot similarities! |

The thing about the FF series (although kinda broke that trend with FFX and X-2, as well as with AC) - is that because the makers off FF thought it wasn't going to sell with the first game, called it Final Fantasy for that reason. When it did they made each game a new story with new characters, because of the name-sake.
So as Kugyou said, feel free to play in whatever order you choose  I personally love FF7, FF9 and FF6 - haven't had a chance to play the games before 6  but i've played all the rest after it |

yeah I just bought the 5-6 anthology today along with 7. That's a pretty cool story actually, looks like the final fantasy people and Led Zeppelin had something in common. |

I recommend Final Fantasy Seven, due to Advent Children and the fact it rocks.
Then, I recommend Final Fantasy 6/3. (In a pinch, grab the retranslation.)
Finally, There's always the X/X-2 series, which I'm a fan of. (Strategy Guides are a MUST...and an Al Bhed Translation FAQ) |
